Just remembered this little tidbit. College town + End of term = Awesome dumpster diving. Kids heading home for the summer don't want to take their crap with them, so it all goes into the trash. Time it just right you can end up with all sorts of neat shit, WORKING electronics, brand name clothes, drugs, booze, porn... All the stuff stuck up college kids drool over.

I'm thinking of hitting up either UF in G-Ville, or USF here in Tampa at the end of the term.

If you're in Gainesville, also check out Wayward Council at W. University Ave and W 8th st. It's a volunteer run record store/show space and it's really awesome.

Also, if you have an eye for such things, theres more than a few squattable buildings in that area of gainesville.

Supposedly you cant fly a sign to panhandle in gainesville, risking a $500 fine. Or so everyone tells me anyhow. It can be a bit rough to get by if you have no money and you're literally getting by on spare change from foot traffic.

Either way, Gainesville is cool, I totally recommend checking it out.

Was debating whether or not to start a new thread but I figured I may as well resurrect an old one.

Hey folks, I am going to be in Gainesville with my band mate by the evening of the 17th. We are playing a show on the 20th at Wayward Council with Jessie Williams. So we will have a bit of time to hang out. If anyone is going to be in Gainesville around then and wants to meet up, PM me!

I have come to dislike gainsville very much in recent years.
I just spent 3 weeks in jail there on a warrant from 10 years ago, that has been long gone.
My buddie from pcola spent 37 days there for camping.
Used to be a cool town, but they are locking people up now for long amounts of time for bullshit stuff.

so anyone else headed here? in my opinion its the best fest out there right now. chaos is good (especially rorschach this year!) and crust fest, sxsw, etc. but htis takes the cake. im gonna be heading there. a friend has connections to no idea (his band was on there) and hit them up about getting me a volunteer job, but they only take locals. guess i'll have to save up.

for those who dont know, here are the bands who played last year The Fest 8 :: Gainesville, FL :: Oct 30, Oct 31, Nov 1 :: Bands

it is halloween weekend in gainesville. last year it was 60 bucks advance 80 at the "door"

Really ill be flying in from Guatemala, and working my way up and out. My first time in FLA so it`s gonna be fun.

tallahassee is a rad place to be in summer, swimming, good music, bike co-op's polo a few times a week. and the list gos on. but i wouldnt reccomend it right now, its cold, boring and seems to be kinda out of the way. also the gainesville kids i know of are weird 25 year old hipster fashion punks that sniff glue when their moms wont write them coke checks, and listen to discharge on their iphones while washing dishes at starbucks.
