HAHAHAAA...i bought 20 old RCMP CF-27 toughbooks at auction (i like to get nerdy..ya) with the HDD's wiped, and refurbished them with a win-XP VLK is stole from my last job. I paid 500$ for the lot, with car chargers, and made the coin back in the first 8 I sold. carried one on a few trips, but found it to be way to fucking heavy, i was sacrificing food and BOOZE!!
I realized tapping a 12 volt inverter into the radio section of a DPU with banana plugs to power the thing was just way to fucking much. Warriding with a laptop is just to nerdy for even me.
An Iphone might be useful though.

i've been robbed at gunpoint 3 times in the last couple years, there's no way i'd carry around anything as valuable as a laptop. I also have a habit of breaking any nice objects I own when i get mad, the last radio I had I threw into the mississippi river :)

Perhaps this has something to do with it?

I've heard that you can use an ipod touch to do things like check your email from a wifihotspot... okay, I'm on the apple site, and I guess you can. Granted, I hate the ipod and everything it stands for in this society, but it's admittedly a useful thing to be that compact and all. I might get one, though I would not use it to listen to music- good way to get robbed or run over by a train apparently.

im a big proponent of the iphone and eee pc laptop. there's just too much you can do with the iphone/touch if it's jailbroken, and the eee pc is just so cheap and lightweight it's very much worth it to me (especially since i do a lot of computer work).

oh yeah, the eee pc is excellent at editing photos but not so much on editing video.

I have been traveling with "Lenovo IdeaPad" for a short time now but it is working well. It's the same size as one of those "Eee Pc's" But in my opinion runs better. Its light weight and durable, plus is you buy/make a little padded case for it, it should be pretty bullet proof!

Bums with gagets dodo doo doo doo! But i think ur gonna get robbed. Good luck.
I think its way more rewarding to gain all the knowledge a computer can tell you to have in your own brain or maybe notes in a notebook. Camping is a wilderness thing, if ya gotta look up on the computer how to camp your not really camping. Cooking is easy to and not hard to remember what you need to do when you make a meal. And plus if you have packeged food it has cooking instructions on the back. Treatment of injuries would be sweet knowlege to obtain. How would you use a computer for hitching? You walk and wait for rides. Im not trying to rag on you but i think if your a real traveling chick, you only have a computer at ur parents house or some shit like that.

haha welllllllllllll you can have all your cool zines that you've collected over the years with you, take an online class, keep notes and contacts, a book(s), pictures, and so many so many other things all in one tiny little device. Maybe not something a "bum chick" would need use of but i guess if you just wanna get fucked up all the time and hang around scum fucks a laptop wouldn't be the best of ideas.

This.
Laptop=endless information
Why would you waste your time walking around looking for the yard when you can just Google Maps it?
There is a HUGE difference between "Gaining your own knowledge" and just going about it in a smarter way

I would advise against it. Mine broke about 6 months ago hitchhiking down 101. If you have your laptop outside all the time it can be exposed to extremes of tempurature and moisture which can fry your motherboard. If you do decide to take one get one of the mini ones and wrap it inside lots of cloths inside your pack and don't use it unless you are inside.
