where ever i put my backpack
so to start, olympia wa just had a shift in task force, for the downtown area mostly, 2 officers to every 3 block radius with a no tolerance on sitting, busking and panhandling ( though its easier to get away with panhandling ....).
i have recieved 2 tickets and 3 warnings in the past week alone. one for busking and another for obstruction (sitting outside of a coffee shop i just bought tea at and all the chairs were taken..... asshole officer just "doing his duty and following orders". he was going to arrest the whole lot of us, even those in chairs, but i talked him out of it kinda.

so either way lets here whats recent in towns being blown up and or police tolerance.
i will try and check regularly cus im about to hit the road again and would like a heads up on the status of the places i go.

not sure what you mean.... you are looking for towns that dont have alot of cops patrolling the streets and fucking up the general fun times of random hobos and gypsies?

DEEEEEEtroit! police are continually having pay cuts, lay offs and other general shittnesses that stop them from being the omnipotent and "dutiful" preservers of peace and safety. much of the city is abandoned and shit... tons of houses and factories for squatting... tho the laws are generally harsh the cops themselves have bigger shit to deal with than a few humbummin squatters in buildings that no one owns. I had a friend of mine call 911 after his car got stolen only to be told by the operator that they "will try to get a car out there but its unlikely because they got bigger things to deal with than car theft, stuff like shootings and stabbings" lul.

but its bitter cold in the winter... no one pays the beggers, not even when yer down town...

but so long as you stay out of the parts of the city that actually have alot of people living there, and are extremely poor... then yer pretty safe.

Willits, CA (and alot of the Mendo area). Over the course of 9 years ive watched that town go from a traveler friendly haven where you could easily get work with a couple hippies comin thru every year to a constant parade of dipshits openly looking for trim jobs (flying signs on 101 for trim work? Cmon!). The cops and redneck towns folk are pissed to say the least and just about everything pack folk normally do has been outlawed in the last couple years. They will gladly take you to jail for sleeping outdoors. I really dont blame them tho. Its a small mountain town and hordes of bum ass fuck tards arrive every year and put a major strain on what little resources they have. Plus alot of kids trash the town and generally disrespect the people who live there. Its a shame that all good things get ruined by people that just cant control themselves.

ASHEVILLE, NC... I can't believe no one's said this one yet; I've been alllll over, and this town is absolutely the most and utterly whack, in my opinion. And I keep on goin' back, just b/c I've got 'family' down there, and every time, the police situation is XXXINFINITELYXXXX worse. The situation is exacerbated by the fact that downtown proper is something like, 4 blocks by 5 blocks, and so, the cops have a fairly small radius of distance in which to bust all the travelin'/street kids/homeless/vagabonds/hippies as possible. Cops on EVERY single block, at ALL times... not just in patrol cars, but in GOLF CARTS, on segways, etc. etc. to the end of days. They also have any number of absolutely AWESOME regulations, such as 'No Smoking Cigarettes in Pritchard Park.' Then, you go across the street to smoke a cigarette, and there are 'No Trespassing' signs on every single business surrounding the park. As such, i know quite a few people who got busted for obeying one sign (no cigs), only to be found disobeying another one - it's FUCKED, and it's all part of the city's 10 year 'plan to end homelessness'. Yeahh, I've got quite a few issues with the po-lice situation there. Admittedly, most of it was due to my own stupidity, but ddammmmnnn those cops there roll up on you from out of NOWHERE, every SINGLE TIME. :\

...of course, if you just stay out of the 'vortex' (downtown)... you're straight, more or less.

Yeahh... ohhh, asheville... such a love and hate relationship with you...

Alwayz remember: in this land of the ''''free'''' (i can't put enough quotes around that).... basically, anything you attempt to get for free, be that food, shelter, rides, on and on and on... is illegal. I can understand how it sometimes becomes a problem with 'panhandling/solicitation' (because hey! there aren't many like 'us' on TV, so it scares the avg. amerikkan to no ends), as well as certain places where every corner you turn there's somebody asking you for something. I get THAT. however, from a purely philosophical perspective... i've never understood why it's illegal to ask someone for kindness and generosity. essentially.

5 days for leftovers?! bollox. i've heard that denver's cool; have never spent time in CO, other than goin' through...

Yep, Would of been fifteen days but I chose some "Impowerment Program for women" beause i had to get out because my friends were watching my dog. And They put me on six months probations. I mean denver is really cool the cops are just HORRIBLE. I was only there for 2 weeks this summer and I now have 7 warrents and they put me as a registerd sex offender for pissing outside. Which they didn't even see my do, just saw a piss spot by where i was sleeping,

Yepp... that's exactly how Asheville was, as well, in terms of the mass accumulation of warrants/charges/tickets and whatnot, although I'm sure it's definitely not restricted to any one spot/town, but more the simple fact that targeting 'homeless' (i always preferred my ex-gf's term of 'home-free') is the easiest game in town. The saddest thing is (and this is my case, as well), if you ever want to go about re-integrating yourself into 'normal' society, it's near-about impossible, once you start gettin' the whack-ass 'rap sheet' that being on the streets often involves. Of course, some of it's luck, some stupidity, some... I dunno. but it's all insane. And yeah, shit like THAT (seeing a 'piss spot', not even seeing you 'expose yo'self')... how the f*%$ does that even HOLD UP (say... in a court?) - probable cause?? reasonable suspicion?? entering some EVIDENCE??? Grrr this shit just pisses me off to no end. Damn, dude. Dat's nuts.

chicago isn't too bad. everyone drank on the street and smoked DOPE.
i'm sure any place can turn sour, depending on where you are/who you are/what you're doing.
