That's odd to hear about Asheville, NC. I haven't been hassled once by cops in Charlotte, NC. I can say that Camberwell and Peckham in South London is fucking abysmal for police harassment. I used to get stopped and searched by cops on almost a weekly basis just for looking crust as fuck. The street drinking probably didn't help me though.

Idk about you guys but I ALWAYS film the police when I. Have a encounter, I always sign under protest and duress and if I'm filming and I havnt broke the common law I refuse to give my details, I don't see how pissing on the ground would hold up in court its hearsay. And if you don't have a phone to record thr officer a broken cell phone will work just lie and say your recording trust me it works, I usally say some shit like this when approached by an officer: " officer for and on the record I am filming I reserve my right to film under the first amendmant any order turn off the cam is unconstitotional and you could be subject to a lean based on your dishonor. Also this is being streamed live to qik.com, qik is a application for a cell phone that allows you to stream recordings live to the internet during the recortding process so if you decide to smash my camara it will still be on the web. I will follow all of your orders peacefully but I do so under protest and duress at all times, I reserve all my rights and at know time do I wave any of these rights and when I sign the ticket I sign it like By:(agent) JAKE DOE under protest and duress, all rights reserved without ptrjudiced. I'm not saying I'm a lawyer and this is by no means legal advice I'll just say no cops in my town ever fuck with me. The most important thing though is to shut up they can only uphold admiral time law by consent.

Im pretty sure the cops in Nashville go rousing folks after last call. The woke us up and said move it on down basically. Walkie talkied someone that he had " two and a dog" waited on us to pack our beds. I have him a thumbs up and a smile, he nodded and we left.. Finally found a spot by Vanderbilt and woke up, unknowingly, next to a huge home bum camp.

yea chicago is the shit, i've never had a problem there. the only time people got arrested was because of this random sweep they did because there was like 50 kids in wicker park litterly... and I had to walk around with two dogs that didn't get along and two packs, arg.

and soon realized the gay disctrict is way better part of the city. even though its a rather long commute to cop...

Let's face it - EVERYWHERE is getting blown up FAST, some more than others.
I wish we could just blame the schwilly oogles, but they aren't the source of this prolific expansion of political control.
It's Gentrification. It's downtown business associations. It's rich, white people who fear and resent damn near everyone.
In general, big city pigs will leave you alone - usually, while small town swine will hunt you down.
Any town with a tourist based economy is sure to have an armed task force ensuring that nothing interferes with business (as in lowering property values by just being there). Expect anti-squatter sweeps prior to peak yuppie season.
Conversely, areas of industrial decay or progressive economic collapse will typically leave you to your lonesome.
Olympia, WA, Eugene, OR and Santa Cruz, CA are examples of small towns with big city problems, yet, somehow by the graces of the state, they still have the funding to ensure that everyone and anyone not fitting the description of a pigheaded tourist gets a ticket or a cell.
Tread Lightly but Walk Tall. A good Hobo is never seen.

Its only blown up if you stick around more than 3 days...hang around a week or more and people start to nitice and your kickdowns become less and less...the "Traveling Broke" sign isnt relevant if youve been there over a week..after that you are officially a bum.

Bigger cities this is less of the case but the kicks are smaller anyways as a lot of people will just equate you with a common bum...small towns you'll get bigger kicks but you better not stay there too long or you will be run out of town.

In germany, squatting is not tolerated, and shut down fast and hard.
Check this shit out in Berlin (800 cops for 22 squatters):

of course they target the poor, its the easiest target, convictions ,money, fillin the jails, most on the streets either have to defend themself, forget it, or go with a public defender the same people who are prosecuting you are defending you its basically all a business. yes there are some towns that are overpopulated i choose to stay clear though unless i really need to be there for a shelter or something.my great great...grandfather is robin hood. id like to know what anyone thinks about it its true.

ASHEVILLE, NC... I can't believe no one's said this one yet; I've been alllll over, and this town is absolutely the most and utterly whack, in my opinion. And I keep on goin' back, just b/c I've got 'family' down there, and every time, the police situation is XXXINFINITELYXXXX worse. The situation is exacerbated by the fact that downtown proper is something like, 4 blocks by 5 blocks, and so, the cops have a fairly small radius of distance in which to bust all the travelin'/street kids/homeless/vagabonds/hippies as possible. Cops on EVERY single block, at ALL times... not just in patrol cars, but in GOLF CARTS, on segways, etc. etc. to the end of days. They also have any number of absolutely AWESOME regulations, such as 'No Smoking Cigarettes in Pritchard Park.' Then, you go across the street to smoke a cigarette, and there are 'No Trespassing' signs on every single business surrounding the park. As such, i know quite a few people who got busted for obeying one sign (no cigs), only to be found disobeying another one - it's FUCKED, and it's all part of the city's 10 year 'plan to end homelessness'. Yeahh, I've got quite a few issues with the po-lice situation there. Admittedly, most of it was due to my own stupidity, but ddammmmnnn those cops there roll up on you from out of NOWHERE, every SINGLE TIME. :\

...of course, if you just stay out of the 'vortex' (downtown)... you're straight, more or less.

Yeahh... ohhh, asheville... such a love and hate relationship with you...
asheville used to be so fuckin dope i hate how things have gotten there. fuckin yuppie scum. cater to the fuckin tourists. they are alla bout keeping it local there but all there revenue comes from out of staters

"The law, in it's majestic equality, forbids the rich and the poor alike to sleep under bridges,
to beg in the streets, and to steal bread."
- Anatole France

I understand the act of forbidding of theft, at least in theory - although I am a 'reformed shoplifter' myself; I was all for liberating products from the shelves of capitalist conglomerations, but then a very wise woman told me that when you steal things, you are demanding that the universe give you more than you need, or something to that effect. It really hit home, let's just say that.

The outlawing of begging, of asking people to be kind to those less fortunate, has always been a sticking point, however. I do understand that most 'normal people' are irritated, if not slightly terrified, by those who have little to nothing - in their minds, it is always 'our fault' that we have either been shunned by the capitalist death culture, or have made a conscious choice to not entrench ourselves within it. I understand that when you're out with your spouse, eating your filet mignon and enjoying a nice candlelight dinner with a glass of red wine, it's a jarring, unpleasant effect to have a dirty hand outstretched towards you as you leave the restaurant. And god forbid that anything be jarring or unpleasant for those who line the pockets of our society. However, what about those individuals who would truly DESIRE to be kind to people? They are few and far between, but they do still exist... I've met them, scattered all over this great and glorious land of ours, and to ultimately be forbidding KINDNESS... it is a strange thing, a burr that gets stuck in my mind, and makes no sense. But then, I flip the switch over to the 'buy, sell, buy, sell' mentality of our culture, and indeed... anything that is not bought, sold, paid for is, in essence, illegal, as it serves no purpose in capitalistic society; the dollar is the bottom line, and anything that deviates from that... yes. Illegal, illegal as it gets.
