before i start off i do want to say im not expecting any free information, although that doesnt mean it wouldnt be appriciated lol. anyways. for years ive been interested in freight hopping, starting back watching hobo stobe or shoestring years ago. as of recently me and a friend have been discussing our first trip and what we should be doing. luckily, many people are generous to give helpful tips and tricks to know the basics of what to do. we have decided that the best yard nearest to us to hop from would be roseville, although with research it seems like a rather difficult yard, i think we will fair fine. our end destination (hopefully if the plan goes as it should) would be to end in reno and do some camping in the area. ive watched videos and really have tried to study as much as i can on what to bring, how to guess the destination of the train (without ccg which of course i dont have) and im pretty confident we have most of everything down at this point. all being said, any tips even basic ones ive probably heard before, would still be greatly appricated. wish me luck n safety guys 💪 happy travels

Roseville was the 2nd yard I got to on my first ride I ever took starting from the old port yard in oakland.

I didn’t really have a set destination at the time so being 15 and dumb I tried my very best to go south but I of course got tricked because northbounds leave the Roseville yard south before turning.

I’m 22 now and the only reason I have been successful at navigating is because I had to adjust my own attitude and realize I’m probably gonna mess up and land somewhere I’m not tryna go.

Be safe in the yard there. Most bulls don’t mess around. And the riders there are tough vets usually. I’m lucky I didn’t get spit back out on my first ride.

(ps there are a few places that the riders kick it while waiting and that’s where I met my lead who showed me the ropes 8 years ago)

Best of luck
