Currently in NL heading west
pack just a few items when youre hopping so you can save room for water and food, what i bring are,
pipe
weed
sleeping bag
squat key
multi tool (letherman)
socks
spoon fork and knife
soap
pot
pan
extra pair of pants
rail spike (for putting in the boxcar door and works as a good hammer if you don't have a squat key)
pen
plastic garbage bag (to cover my pack when if it rains)
tarp
extra lighter
needle
dental floss
toilet paper
hand rag
gloves
flashlight and extra batteries
hoodie
blanket
rollies (ciggarettes)
notebook or sketch book
and one book to read
besides lots of water and some food, thats all i pack when travelling, except for my tent but you don't allways have one of them. but don't forget a hat, skank, boots, and a leather jacket.
and by far, don't forget your road dogs
Great list, what is a squat key?

My pack on my recent trip was really small, and i'd recommend that people keep it that way especially if you aren't in decent to good shape.
I had:
Sleeping bag
Single person tent
2 pairs of pants
3 shirts
8 pairs of socks
2 skanks
1 pair Boots
1 vest (not at all needed)
1 Hoodie
Boyscout utensils
Cell phone + charging box(holds 3 charges)
Leatherman
Main EDC knife
Notebook + writing/drawing supplies (duck tape wrapped around pencils)
Nalgene (usually I ended up just carrying my water in a gallon jug)
Toilet paper
Small medkit, including bandages, an antiseptic, an anti-diarrheal, and an antihistamine

In total this comes to between 25 and 30 lbs depending on if I had extra food or cardboard or other things that are used and then disposed of
Honestly if you're packing for summer and you're going to be around civilization this is all you need! Hopefully my pack isn't redundant, but i see a lot of people who pack really heavy, like 60 lbs+ and im really not sure how necessary that is in the summer (i know that pack size is personal and different for people, but it just seems like too much). And even for me some of the things i packed where purely luxury.

9) Kelty Cosmic 0 degree down sleeping bag

^I would recommend this bag to anyone. It is the bag I first started with, and I still have it, only a little shittier than before after 4 years. It saved my life when my tarp collapsed in the mountains outside Eugene and I was soaked to the bone in sub-freezing weather.

Oh the bag was soaked. It was a synthetic bag, hence saving my life.

Ah, from your earlier post I was under the impression that you had a down bag. Guess it was just a typo.

Ya, guess i didnt read that. I have never heard of Kelty making a 'down' Cosmic 0 degree. The only ones I have owned/seen are synthetic.
