So, here is the very long and probably really unnecessary list that I made. This was partly made to do something with my insomnia and all this fuckin' time I have while stuck here before I leave.

Now, it is somewhat crude and the organization scheme is rather lax and lazy, but, frankly, I have been getting tired of staring at this stupid list. So, if you feel that there can be improvements made, whether it be organization, additional suggestions, or some piece of information you feel the list is lacking about an item, please, do toss them up on here, or, hell, make a copy of this an edit it how you like.

In addition to posting the list, I have attached a copy in .doc format (I had to put it in a .zip folder due to the limited list of file extensions the forum accepts).

Enjoy, and, well, be smart and careful. :)

I'm thinking it is just a list of items that a person can take with them (not that they have to). Every tramp knows that sardine oil doubles as KY.

btw: P38 can openers are the shitty little cousin of the P51

its not a list of what you should carry...its just a great, easy and condensed collection of all the things said in this thread...saves the time of goin through 15 pages!! Makes it easier to go through and pick and choose what you personally would need and give some great creative ideas.

I use an old ALICE ruck:

1 Full set of clothes(two pairs of socks, boxers, pants, t-shirt) in a compression sack.
Pair of thermals, bibs, and a jacket(normally wearing this, not in the ruck)
Mess Kit(pot, pan, 2 tin cups, salt, pepper, season all, random sauces)
First Aid(mainly iodine, antibiotic oinment, random bandaids)
Tender Box
Deck of cards
Flashlight that takes common battery(AA, AAA)
Notebook, Pens
Hygiene Bag(bar soap, toothbrush and paste, hotel shampoos if im lucky enough to get a room)
Small fishing kit with tackle(pvc pipe with some 12lb wrapped around it)
For food i normally just get some tortilla shells and summer sausage and a ton of dryed fruit. I don't bring much food as most of my diet is from the dumpster. No need to buy food when so much is thrown out really.
Gallon of water

Oh and tinfoil, normally keep it in my mess kit but it also works as a great hat to keep the government from reading and controlling my mind.

My Backpack

I toured on a bicycle, but most of the stuff transfers over to hitch hiking, hiking, or train hopping.

GoLite JAM 35L Pack
Goretex Rain Jacket
Rain Cap
Waterproof Snow Pants
2 Pair of Smartwool Socks
Goretex Hiking Boots
Techwick short Sleeve Shirt
Patagonia Warm Base Layer
Under Armour Cold Gear Long Sleeve Shirt
Velocity Synthetic 35 Rated Sleeping Bag (I'd go with a 0 rated personally)
Water Resistant Sierra Nevada Bivy Sack and/or One Person Throw Open Tent
8' x 6' Tarp
Small Pot, Flint and Steel, Whisperlite, Gasoline, Lighter
Waterproof Gloves
Paracord and Dry Sack (If in Grizzly Territory)
3 Liter Hydration Pack and Water Filter
Thermals and Sweat Pants
Minimalist Shoes
First Aid Kit
Phone
Bungee Cords
Knife or Another Weapon of Choice
Bread, Peanut Butter, Spork
Plastic Garbage Bag or Water Proof Backpack Cover

This is pretty much all the gear I needed for all seasons while touring not including bike gear and parts. I managed to squeeze everything above in the backpack I just got. It's a tight fit, but the most important part is organization so whatever you use the most should be at the top and use the least at the bottom. So you aren't rummaging through it a lot looking for stuff.[/b][/b]

Instead of coffee, I just carry caffeine pills. No cooking required, takes up less space. Won't keep you quite as warm, but it's useful for appetite suppression if you're low on food.

I like to carry lots of protein/energy bars for food. Lightweight, small, keep you full pretty long.

I know a lot of people would disagree with this, but I carry an iPhone and charger that can fully charge the phone about 6 times (found one on ebay for about $25). The phone has a million uses: scanner, gps, maps, railroad atlases, I keep ebooks/pdfs on survival/squatting/etc., communication obviously, entertainment, compass, etc.

Went through this whooooole thing and I don't think I saw these added (if they were, forgive me), but recently I've become a fan of bringing one or two pairs of diabetic socks with me. They can be pricey some places, but they sell them at the dollar store now (and at Walmart, Walgreens etc, which is a little pricier but probably better anyway if you have the funds). They are designed for, obviously, diabetics, and are made to be good for circulation, moisture control, and to reduce risk of pressure/blisters, and often times have extra cushioning, etc.

Another thing I thought of, for the other ladies out there, I went to burning man a long time ago and they were handing out those "She-Wee" things -- you know, the things that help us pee like dudes. I forgot about it for a while, and it's not like squatting is a big deal, but I brought the thing with me on quite a few adventures after I found it again, and it actually saved me quite a few times when I really had to pee in the city and there were no damn bushes or public bathrooms and cops all over the place. Bringin that shit with me always now, weighs nothing too. Think they are like $20 on amazon if you buy the one that comes with a case and extendable tube. (PLUS, for real, what girl hasn't fantasized about peeing standing up at least once in their lives anyway. Unfortunately though... no... you still can't really write your name in the snow).
