So I’m looking to upgrade my sleeping bag.I have a behemoth of a sleeping bag from like camp crystal lake lol. I’m thinking about getting either a Teton sports one or a thinner one with a fleece liner. It doesn’t really get that cold in here in south Texas but I do have thermal layers , hoodie and looking into merino wool socks what do you guys think?

Are you subject to much rain? What are the low temps where you are at?

If no/little rain, go with down. Otherwise, a lightweight synthetic. Have two bags, a winter one, and a lighter weight summer one, if you can.

I switched to a ultralight 30 F down quilt, atop a well insulated inflatable ultralight pad, for summer use. It has been heaven, but cost me my left testicle. That’s o.k., though, the family jewels are purely ornamental now, anyway.

Weather is bipolar here so we do get some rain and lows it gets probably around 50 degrees. But it’s usually hot and humid mostly

I prefer quilts to bags. No zippers, lighter weight & you're not trapped in it. But that's just me. I'm small (under 100lbs) old (almost 70yro) & female. I'm a walking target so I don't like being in positions that I'm trapped if ya get past the dog, & bearspray. I been doing this a long time & don't like being fucked with & for the most part I'm not. But sleeping bags can be a death trap & hard to get out of when you need to
