i never actually made this myself yet but i got the idea from watching a bill nye the science guy episode. one of the kids on the show took small peices of pvc plastic put it in boiling water. the plastic became.. well plastic, malliable like clay. he formed them into vampire teeth that he just stuck to his canines and let cool. it seemed really cool and fairly simple.

im thinking about taking some of the PVC piping left sitting out at nearby dumpsides and such sawing down the length to about eight or so inches boiling it in a big tin bucket of water. and using the mallability of the plastic to taper the cylinder into a slight conical shape. then let it cool.

of course you dont actualy have to boil the plastic, just use it as is i suppose but i really want to try this so im gunna... soon. and ill tell you all if it works out.

after that its just a matter of getting hold of some rawhide, streatching and fixing it to the now cone shaped drum.

as i said never did it yet, which is why the post is undetailed but now that ive posted this it means i have to actually do it so i can tell you all if it actually worked or not.

I don't like having paraphernalia lying about. Be careful.

That being said, I'd like to see the pics also.

Yeah thats the coolest thing.... finding rawhide how 2s... thats always been a big issue with me, and why i never made the drum yet. I never knew how to get a hold of head material.

but you know when i finally grow the balls to get out of this house and into a cozy squatt downtown ill have to make oodles and oodles of homemade instruments. what else am i going to do? AND THEN I CAN SELL THEM!

that's what I plan to do, we have a drum circle at the beach near my house, and kids would love a drum that doesn't cost an arm and a leg.

Support StP!

Donations go towards paying our monthly server fees, adding new features to the website, and occasionally putting a burrito in Matt's mouth.

Total amount
$20.00
Goal
$100.00

Monthly Goals

  1. Paying the Bills
    $20.00 of $50.00
The first $50 in donations go towards paying our monthly server fees and adding new features to the website. Once this goal is reached, we'll see about feeding Matt that burrito.
  2. Buy Matt a Beer
    $20.00 of $75.00
Now that we have the bills paid for this month, let's give Matt a hearty thank you by buying him a drink for all the hard work he's done for StP. Hopefully his will help keep him from going insane after a long day of squishing website bugs.
  3. Feed Matt a Burrito
    $20.00 of $100.00
Now that the bills are paid and Matt has a beer in his hand, how about showing him your love by rewarding all his hard work with a big fat burrito to put in his mouth. This will keep him alive while programming new features for the website.
  4. Finance the Shopping Cart
    $20.00 of $200.00
Now that the bills are paid and Matt is fed, perhaps it's time to start planning for those twilight years under the bridge... if only he had that golden shopping cart all the oogles are bragging about these days.
