I'm wondering if I should stop in Vancouver for a couple days on my way to Alaska. It seems like a big place, maybe difficult to get out of with my dog in tow. Can anybody share experiences about hitching or hopping outta there? I'm not a fan of most big cities, but don't want to miss out on a cool spot either.

Van is a cool city to visit-but stay outta the downtown eastside, trust me. It is a bitch to get out of though. You have to get to abbotsford on transit and then walk up the highway. Transit takes a while. It was two sky trains and a bus or two. Don't try to hitch out of van, it's dangerous and illegal (not that that has ever stopped me) but seriously you won't get a ride easily. Go to Langley then to abbotsford and you're pretty much good to go.

I did this last September. :)
