ive slept outside in Adam, Rdam, and many many other cities. It is easy, and people generally dont bother you. Find a construction site and you should be golden, or a park without bright lights.

I have done a shitload of hitching around Europe, it is easy as hell. Italy can be a bit tough, as can Spain if you dont speak Spanish. Dont be a dumbass and walk on the motorway, and you should be fine. Places to visit...just land, find some like minded folks, and ask them. Amsterdam...

Going north is easy, at least till you hit Albany- nearly every hitch-hiker I know/have encountered has had trouble in that area. Take the Metro North for a few bucks and hten hitch ove rto I-90. Go from..wherever. But NYS cops blow donkey nuts.

Hitching around here is riddiculously easy- think Oregon, for all the Yanks out there. A day from Townsville to Brisbane, two from Brissy to Syd. I'm rolling out in a day or two headed for Melbs, looking for any info about the city (shows, squats, dumpsters, etc) and/or folks to meet up with.

In Darwin, hitching out to Brisbane tomorrow with a stopover in Mt. Isa for couchsurfing. Dunno where from there, either down to Mebs via Syd, or looking at catching out....

I totally agree with grayce. Though I'm neither small nor female, I've always found that attitude is very important. Also, knowing how to defend yourself (like, really getting into situations and practicing) is an incredible boost of confidence.

I tend to agree with LC, though I haven't tried squatting in PDX personally. A squat with a family might not be the best type of move, especially to a new area, while looking for work. y'know, the whole not having a legit address, power, water, etc. might not be the best...
