Yeah, I've been in the hospital so many times for that shit (drinking a 4loko now). I always try to have some phenobarbital on hand to help with W/D's but that only goes so far. I quit drinking every day after my last hospital stay and have been doing better. Always be careful, any drug (alcohol included), that affects GABA can kill you in W/D's.

i've had 4 friends die from OD and 3 from DT's. Alcohol, was a far more intense kick than heroin. One of my closest friends died just a couple years ago from alcohol withdrawal. He was in the fucking ambulance. on his way to urgent care. im so pissed they didn't medicate him immediately.

im sorry about yer friend, i lost my best friend early this year to alcohol. it really is just as bad if not worse then kicking dope and its a shame people dont realize that until its too late. i dont know if its nationwide or varies from state to state but they wouldnt even give me water the last time i was in a ambulance on the way to the hospital from DT's, and they sure as hell didnt give me ativan. that particular trip was especially bad as i was given 2 shots of ativan, and 2 valium ( i think ) at my discharge and was told to pretty much kick rocks. the other times my DT's had gotten so bad i had to be hospitalized i was given a perscription for ativan to help with the days after the initial shit hit the fan, but this time i wasnt, but fortunetly im 9 days sober now. alcoholism is a big fucking deal especially in this sub culture and it really sucks how many people succumb to it. theres nothing revolutionary about dying at 30 from liver failure or spending all of yer money on poison marketed to kill poor people in the first place. ide never tell anybody what to do with their bodies or how to live but personally it was time for me to wake the fuck up, sober the fuck up, and get back to fucking shit up thats not my body.

Oi man. I have been to hospitals so many times for that shit. I hate when they give you a bit of ativan and tell you, "good luck." It literally will kill you, kicking alcohol. Sorry about your buddy - I hate to hear that. I've seen a few go from hep c complications related to drinking and IV drug-use. Glad you're sober bro, it ain't no fun being drunk and sick. Or sober and sick....

I just was messaged by a member here asking some questions and they mentioned librium, benzos, etc... I just thought I would share my response, and this response goes out to anyone that wants/needs a change (including the part about hitting me up for support, advice or encouragement)--

"I am glad to hear that you're motivated to do this and if you wanna message me at anytime to talk about it, I'm open to that.

I have never tried librium but based on the cursory research I've done, it seems like it works well for people, but it is very habit-forming which can obviously be counter-productive. If you do use any for your withdrawal symptoms, try and only use it if you absolutely 100% need to, and **not as a replacement for alcohol**. Like, say if you're shaking so bad you can't do anything and/or having a panic attack. Try to be a real hardass about it, like with the entire withdrawal process.

If you smoke weed, that can really help a lot too, as well as tons of entertainment. If you have internet, download an entire series that you like and just veg to distract yourself and remember that it's only temporary.

Don't focus on the withdrawal shittiness, try to think about how awesome it will feel to wake up and not be sick. Maybe have a photo or something you can look at that will remind you. I always looked at a certain tattoo that I got for my friend who died of drug addiction and alcoholism."

As an added comment, it is pretty fucked that hospitals are so callous about detoxing, but keep in mind that more people die from not kicking addiction than people that die from kicking addiction (I honestly can't think of anyone that I've heard of that died detoxing). Tapering is a sure way to not die. Taper slowly if you need to, even measure it out like a doctor with your weekly prescription. If you're suffering too much, taper it more gradually, but don't stop tapering.

You can die from stopping tons of medications. When I was 13, I was addicted to morphine as well as other pain killers because of a serious injury. I was prescribed these medications and addicted by necessity. When it was time to get off of them, it was a very controlled and gradual taper which I hardly noticed. If you feel like you're going to die, you're not tapering gradually enough.

Everytime I detox off alcohol I always find I get huge cravings for anything extremely salty also (maybe it's the dehydration from drinking and my body being used to that?)

The best thing I find once overcome to stop drinking again is keep yourself busy, it's what I suggest to everyone. In my case found the best place to kee myself busy was right in the middle of alcohol at some pub, when working around it find it much easier to avoid and keep off it in the long run rather than keeping busy in other ways/jobs (obviously this will not work for everyone)

Highly wish the best of luck to anyone over coming alcohol issues, or any drug issues for that matter.

Just wanted to throw a quick note in here, cuz I've been through this a fuck ton of times too. If you're doin well and starting to get intense cravings again and are thinkin' about falling off the wagon, it sounds kinda lame but honestly if you buy flavored sparkling water, it really kinda helps. I think maybe it's the bubbles that make it almost seem like it's booze, but it's water and not soda so it's not the worst thing you could be putting in your body. I used to fuckin HAAATE sparkling water, and always thought la Croix and shit was for boring white people, but honestly it totally helped me as a replacement..... It also helped me get less cravings for candy constantly that came with detoxing since eating that much candy is also pretty shitty for you and fucks with your mood with all that sugar crashing and what not.

Like someone else stated above, ya gotta fuckin keep busy. Every time I've fallen off the wagon it was when I was bored and stagnant. Find a hobby and get addicted to that instead.

Oh yeah and I also started taking passion flower for anxiety cuz it gets super bad when you aren't just always looking to the bottle for help (you can get it in tincture, pill or tea form), and I've heard great things about Reishi mushroom powder for that as well (you can buy the powder and mix it with coffee or you can take that in pill form as well daily), I just bought some but have yet to really try it.

Kava is great like above stated but be careful not to go too crazy with it, it can eventually be bad on your liver and especially bad if you fuck up and then start drinking again while also taking kava. Everything in moderation I guess. I don't smoke weed anymore (gives me anxiety) so I have kratom for emergencies when I seriously can't sleep or am having a really hard time and panicking and wanting to drink, but again, you gotta be careful with that especially if you have prior addiction issues with heroin, as it is mostly used for people to quit dope. But it does help me on occasion if I get really bad, I think because heroin withdrawls and alcohol withdrawls have been found to be very similar. Like I said... everything in moderation. I've tried CBD, it didn't really work for me but I do hear that works well for others who want benefits of calming down factors from weed but not to actually get high.

Hope some of this was helpful. Good post and good additions, yall

Dude, you are spot on. I buy la croix by the case and chug that shit all day when I'm detoxing. It really does help, and it's water, which you should be drinking lots of.

During the first few days of detox, I crave sweets and carbs like crazy and try to keep them totally available. Anything my heart desires besides booze, I'll allow myself to have.

After the first rough few days dry, I still get notable moodiness and frustration for the next week or so. It's easy to get pissed off about it, because it seems like you should be good to go, but don't be fooled. You might still randomly get weepy or angry for no fucking good reason (except that your brain chemistry is shifting, of course). This is all normal and means you're doing it right.
