I already knew what the soup kitchen was. A lot of people were readily available to talk about that, and there are efforts to make a new soup kitchen. But, I found out what Lows was... And, there's not as much energy around that. I don't know what happened to Lows. What I learned is that it was a safer space for snowbirds to congregate. The handlebar closing and Lows closing were two big hits to the Slabs tourism.
But, I see why. I've been out here for some weeks and I honestly wouldn't suggest somebody come out here for more than a few days knowing that this place used to be much better for seasonal and short-term visitors. Come see it, talk to some people, go to a few events, and then bounce.
