This post inspired me to reopen an account to post a response. I apologize if it’s a bit long-winded!
I lived and traveled out my my car for about a combined three years . Once about 15 years ago and again about 10 years back.
It seems like a different life now, it was definitely a different time. The 2000s and into early 2010s the energy of the world was better. People were more open. Many things were cheaper, more genuine, more fun imo. Ironically, i think the internet and social media changed alot of that for the worse.
Out in the city I see so much desperation and despair now. Drugs and inflation and selfishness have changed so much. What would be adventure then, could be scary now. If asked, I could advise someone how to live / survive this way but would rather encourage a different path.
So many close to being outside / on the street not by choice but by poverty makes choosing that ride less appealing imo.
The end of STP is another nail to the coffin, closing that odd chapter of my life. Its wild just thinking on it. One less thing to look back to and draw me in.
This website has no doubt been a great resource for people. However, I can understand the weight of vetting info and people to safeguard a community that, frankly, can be very dangerous.
Even away from it, I imagine this hub you’ve created occupies alot of your mind. The weight of responsibility, how the world has changed, and your opinion of the “scene” at current date understandably influenced your decision. And I think you’ve made the right one.
Cutting the cord will create new space in your life and mind open to your new future. You deserve it and owe less than you’ve given.
Good luck Matt!
