hi everyone,

me and my partners housing situation fell thru and we weren't too prepared for it. we haven't worked in 2 years, we're mid 20s, trans. we have some extra money for a start at something, around 1k. we were looking into vans for a while but never seemed in our budget. we haven't had permanent housing for a while, at the whims of being kicked out so it was a long time coming, but we've never bummed it other than couch surfing. any advice would be appreciated. we've gotten used to shitty stuff before and dealt with traumas or whatever. but, ig you deal with it when it comes up or you don't make it. anyways, where do ppl buy cheap vans? i've been reading the rubbertramping stuff as well. any other ideas? we have a tent and sleeping bags. car right now but it isn't ours, just borrowing it for a short time. we are staying with a friend for a week to a month, not sure how long we are allowed yet. after that, nothing really lined up.

anyways, we like folk music, reading, weed, anarchism, and we've both done a bunch of mutual aid and related stuff.

nice to meet you all.

I'm more or less in the same situation you guys are. Currently at my partner's place, but there's a stupid limit of one person per room, so I'm here secretly while I get my affairs in order. Been trying to find cheap, fuel efficient cars, and work through the logistics of rubber tramping since I'll be looking forward to that for a few years at least.

Recently I've given thought to the idea of moving from place to place volunteering for mutual aid networks and getting in with different collectives while on the road, but I don't know of any orgs around my area, or even near the region to get started with.

Don't really have all that much experience myself yet, so pontifications aside, all I can really offer right now is solidarity from one soon to be traveler to another.

Ah sounds tough. We've actually been involved in a lot of mutual aid over the years, its how we met. Would be nice to contribute in those ways but its hard when your living situations unstable. Still, I've always dreamed of being at an animal sanctuary. We've tried communes and stuff in the past but its always fallen thru. WWOOF seems maybe useful so im going to check that out. Ill always be searching and moving toward anarchy, whatever the confines of society push me thru.

Solidarity to you as well. I hope everything goes as smoothly as it can.

You know, I was looking into WWOOF too, and there's a few listings on there that seemed pretty cool all things considered. If you guys end up working with WWOOF, I'd definitely be interested in hearing how that goes. I also looked into Communes, and might visit a few, but some of them seem a bit too weird for my taste, always some detail or another that makes me think "Yeah, it'd be perfect except for this one thing." Or "Yeah, I like the idea, but man do they expect a lot."

Still, it's appreciated. I hope things go smoothly for you both as well.

Hello. I am also brand new to being homeless so I have decided to fully embrace it, I had big suburban house "good job" 3 cars and a beautiful wife and 2 children. That was three weeks ago. Today I sit here on a 8 year old samnsung with absolutely nothing three days ago was in a car crash not my fault and then roughed up and humiliated by the police all while completely innocent of any wrong doing. Just some back story. I have traveled across the country before but never did I start with absolutely nothing. I would suggest you sell everything you can material possessions do not mean much. Shelter and hygiene are the most important things you need. Hopefully one day

I'm not new to homelessness, new to sobriety. I have shot opiates of every kind since I was 19, im 42, I quit 7 years ago, but I was also drinking 24/7 since 17. That's not it but you get the picture. I was functional the majority of the time, I also hitch hiked and rubber tramped. Back in Jax meband my brother had squats all over, w/ no squatter rights lawwe did that for about 5 years.i was an RV tech for about 15 years tho made really good money... Back around '06-14 25 an hour flat rate.. not hourly so I got paid by the job. Had amazing insurance and paid vaca, before that I was even manager at several fast food places, but mainly just to steal money from them, lol sorry not sorry. Just every year or two my mental health would crash possibly bc of the drugs and alcohol bc even at work I always had whiskey or gin, and was always fixing in bathrooms. I was diagnosed schizo-effctive, PTSD, general anxiety w/panic disorder ADHD OCD. I don't believe all that but whatever they wanna give me money to not work I'll take it, won't influence my politics or lack there of thought. So I reiterate, not new to being homeless just to sobriety while homeless. The people in this town are fanatical Christians that won't help literally bc my vocab includes words they don't like, that's the only reason. I like having a house, and it's extremely cheap here not many places in the country can u have a 3 be for less than 700 a month. That's with electric and Internet so I don't want to loose this place I mostly just need help cleaning up what my girl and her 2 kids did to the place B4 they left. The dump is too far to walk to, right now there's 11 50 gallon bags of trash and I haven't made much of a dent.i cannot drive bc of seizures either. So if the landlord sees this place as it is I'm out I really don't want to just put it in the woods but I may not have a choice. Im not complaining just giving back story on current situation.its sad how many people are homeless now, something needs to be done about this mess. Preferably before the civil war starts. If you're ever near Chattanooga I will be happy to give you hand and a place to stay, like I said Its 3bd 2 bath so I have plenty of room just would like help getting the place in order so I can start traveling again, was supposed to recently with someone I met here then things went off the rails for a bit, also need to get things straight B4 I hit the road bc I want to keep the place bc I'm lucky enough to have it and be able to afford it.

Things are rough and only going to get rougher I am lucky enough to have a cheap affordable place you can't beat 7-800 a month for a 3bd/2bath, that's including electric and hi-speed Internet. So I wish everyone luck and offer help to anyone who needs it.
