How do you get a free hotel room?

Is there anyone that has a solid theory on getting hotel rooms for free? I wonder if there's a certain kind of person that puts up travelers. Is there a state they're from, or a universal way to put asking to share a room with someone you don't know, but with no hidden requirement?

I feel like a whole field of study could be oriented around this. I never go to bars, so I have no idea how to typify stuff I've heard people say that scored a free room.

I would guess just hang around the $1 store with a sign for this specific purpose, and ignore the few shady characters (people with meth or cocaine habits or confederate flags.)

I think a lot of collaboration on this matter could help people who can't get into homeless shelters because they have no I.D., or who are getting kicked out of the Flying J parking lot.

In most states you can call the cops on yourself and they will get you a motel depending on the state. I've heard it has been done. In Wyoming they have sisters of the road or something along that name, oh st cristophers of the road and they give you gas vouchers, motel & McDonald's cards...

What if you set up with a grill and gave away free food next to the hotel? Or staged a car wash there? You could even enlist a guest.

Man it's hard to get anything for free nowadays but if you have a membership you get credits towards free rooms but some motels will let you stay there if you work there as far as i know

sexwork? if that's an option for you.

nothing against sex workers who operate by choice (I've even thought about it since im incredibly sex positive and enjoy making others happy), but what a sad indictment as to the state of our world when those who don't want to do it are essentially forced to due to the general uncaring attitude of many. I really feel for the houseless individuals whom have been forced into sexwork just to have a place to sleep at night (a former friend being one of them). She (the former friend) has even told me that there are plenty of times where after the act (oral typically) is done, the guy bolts, and she is left with nothing. OP, I wish I had a better answer for you. Im in the PNW, which is different in terms of opportunities compared to back east. Say what you will about the racist redneck assholes here in North Idaho, but you can generally find a good place to sleep not even a mile off the path in the woods, and are generally not bothered. While not a hotel, it's something at least. If you have any money, perhaps something like an AirBNB? I've also heard (hotel/inn wise) of people sleeping in the bathrooms or even locked staircases. Good luck OP, and I hope you found a good place!
