I had one for when I was in Buffalo NY as busses from Boston to New York now use security wands on people

Probably be really good for greyhound stations when you stop in those big shithole cities. I've heard waay too many horror stories about somebody getting robbed on their way to get a beer.

I was also thinking ceramic knives would be good but you'd have to make sure it has no metalic pieces. Their also fairly easy to come by harbor freight and the like sell them for cheap.

I've also seen those cat knuckle things there's a plethora of stuff out there that you can get at smoke shops and liquor stores.

Cool info, but IMO if you're going to be making do with a half-assed tool, you might as well purchase a cheapo knife for the same price once you arrive at your destination, instead of risking being caught. Unless, as you say, you're expecting to be mugged at the greyhound station.
I did this back in my days of cheating Ryanair out of checked baggage fees.

Some people travel because we came from abusive places. I have a huge blade I carry with me i will post it from my computer later. Its all fun and games with prison politics. But, when you survive a car drop at almost 100 mph because you couldn't deffend yourself. Carry something. People that pick hitchers are just as dangerous. Rule #1 you don't have to take every ride that stops. But, when you are cold down and out alone and broke. I hop in after I tell them I am armed. I'm not here to hurt anyone but, if you have an idea it might be your last one.

I have a knife but I don't essentially use it for defense though I do use it as a daily tool. Still having it will deter someone from messing with me when they see it clipped to the inside of my pocket. I also carry mace wich I would use as a primary though I have not had to. You could probably get away with mace in a metal detector because it comes in an aluminum can not sure if it would set it off.

when I get on a plane, I put my legal weapons in my luggage, and bury my illegal weapons somewhere safe for when I come back. reclaim luggage, and weapon, at destination on arrival...

when I am going into a government building to pay a parking ticket, I check my knife/bag at the front desk.

When not wanting to present with a weapon, my suggestion is not to carry something obviously manufactured to be a concealed weapon. Or spend money on it for that matter. I have a beater bar which is simply steel flat stock. It slips into my pack in a sheath made of old seat belt. If I'm somewhere I don't want it to be construed as a weapon due to the 5-50 cord handle, digging out one end of the wrap and pulling will unravel and just toss the steel. I much prefer walking around a strange city with this than with a piece of plastic.

Obviously it's not for trying to take through metal detectors.

Concealed knives are neat but I don't like the idea of someone being able to use my own against me in a pinch.

As for the knife being used against you, I think the mistake most people do is to pull it out, and fling it like a wand... if you're gonna pull out a knife, use it right away.

When I head out in June I've been thinking about carrying dog repellent(mace) and possibly this meat tenderizer. I have a spring loaded knife I was gonna bring but really don't want anything that will land me in jail or court on me since cops love harassing anyone carrying a large pack. I'd really like to never have to use these items on anyone but there's a lot of people out there that Don't have your best interests in mind..
