Hello STP—

I’m a former traveler looking to travel again and leave Los Angeles. Mid 30s and would love to go somewhere where there’s work, meet up with decent folks, and whatever.

I’m sober, but I’m okay with anyone who is Cali sober/just smokes weed.

About me:

36, have rubber tramped all over— some hitch hiking, stayed in Slabs for a few months, punk rock, old emo, old classic rock.

I’ve reached the point of my life where trying to play pretend like I’m going to live a normal life has become depressing, and if I’m going to stay sober and be healthy, it has to be on my own terms with traveling and finding some adventure.

Oh, I write stories and will gladly nerd out about art.

Cheers

Have you left LA yet? I'm close by(Santa Barbara) and looking for a good road dog to probably start heading north to Seattle. I'm having a hard time finding work here and know there's plenty in Seattle plus the tent city I know up there is decent. Message me if you're still looking for a good cali sober( just weed sometimes and cigs) road dog!

Funny you should mention wanting to leave this area. I can see why. I'm pretty much having to stick around, that is unless anywhere else I go can guarantee me a Squat to live in more or less "indefinitely" until I find a job or a way to get all of the "inheritance" money that's due me, in cash and into a safe bank account - I'm having a rough go at it here in California because none of the banks will open me a basic account because I can't get a Social Security Number with "just" my US passport. People see that statement and go "oh, where you from" like the COUNTRY on the Passport isn't SELF-EXPLANATORY, people. And this is also in-person when I SHOW it to people. This is Dumbfuckistan, but I'm stuck here for the foreseeable future, until I die of old age and lack of health care options in walking distance and lack of public transportation to the places that WILL see me with "only" Medi-Cal, sort of thing. So, you wanna leave, me I have to stay, like it or not. The jobless wasteland of a desert that it is.

Ah I’m sorry you’re going through that. Can you get a bank account with a license and passport if you know your social? What about social services, I’m pretty sure they have to give you a duplicate, I just forget which one it is. ChatGPT would know. There was a time I literally had no ID at all or address for mail and somehow got like a library card and then a gym membership with a photo and grinded my way up to a non driving ID, then driver’s license. I had to send mail to a friend’s house without them knowing and then show the mailman my ID so they would release it to me. Sucked but I feel you.

For what it’s worth, the further into the desert or San Bernardino you go, the more likely you can find SOMETHING like McDonald’s or whatever. Seems counterintuitive because it’s hot as fuck out there.

What about getting Chime or something online and then depositing cash at Walmart or wherever they allow?

I don't HAVE a social security number, Social Security wouldn't accept the Passport And as for driving licence, I have nothing TO drive, no car, and also with no Social, the DMV turned me away even though in spite of the new CA AB1766 law in place, they just refused to listen to me quoting THEM the law so I have to sue the DMV too, if "suing" is the word for what you do to a government agency that's refusing to obey the state or federal LAW. I mean, there are rules and regulations, they HAVE to abide by them, they just won't even LOOK at the laws I'm quoting them. For Social Security it's the Code of Federal Regulations 42CFR Subsection 436.407(a)(1) that says they have to accept a United States passport STANDALONE as evidence of both your citizenship and identity and "identity" means name and date of birth. Social Security office won't accept my US passport by itself and so won't give me a number AT ALL. And as I have nothing TO drive for a "test" behind the wheel, I have no way to get a licence. And a non-driver licence, again with what I just said about the DMV and the new California Assembly Bill "California ID for All". That was enacted years ago but took hold LAST year January. January 2024, to be precise. That part the dumbass DMV clerks refused to listen to me quoting them the law. I think I'm a waste of a law degree, just standing there at a loss as to what exactly to do to them because they're not listening to me. Maybe that's because I'm a woman? Or more because I'm a woman AND a minority. I have this useless piece of paper I could hang on a wall that says I "can" practise LAW in some states. But no. "Practise law" means get people to LISTEN to me. Passing the [New Mexico] Bar Exam doesn't mean anyone will listen to me when they're looking at me in-person.

Everything online demands a damn Social Security Number, and Walmart demanded one to even sell me a money order for CASH (well, precisely what happened there was that Wal Mart too wouldn't accept my US passport by itself for what I was trying to do which was just buy a money order with CASH) so basically Wal Mart is getting sick of me filing charges against them with the Consumer Finance Protection Board over basically every little thing every time I try to do anything in there. Or maybe they don't get the link between who they're looking AT in-person and "the person who filed the complaint with the Consumer Finance Protection Board" online and on paper.....sometimes methinks that THAT's it in a nutshell.

Were you born in the US? Because if you were, you have a SSN.

Also, no DMV is going to help you if you are just spouting off how 'they have to do things you say' because 'its the law'....thats like some sovereign citizen nonsense.

Also, wtf is up with the law degree rant? I'm not trying to be a dick here, but from what I'm seeing from your last post, it doesn't exactly scream 'I have a law degree'.

There are pretty straightforward and, not very difficult ways to get out of your Social Securtiy card issue. You just have to contact the Social Sercurity Administration, give them a copy of a Birth Certificate (certified copy from the state you were born in/naturalized in), wait a few weeks and you get a card.

I've done this twice now. But honestly, not really had to present my SSC as a source of ID in a long time, for really anything. I just have my # memorized

Social Security Administration is BY LAW reauired to accept a US passport and not deemand a birth certificate, if they do that it's "Document Abuse" and that's against the law.

And as for your claim that you're NOT trying to be a dick, why the bloody hell not just be like the rest of civilisation does when they see me. They do things to me in-person that indicate that they think I'm some foreigner or stupid idiot with no education and then react like dickheads when I reply that they're breaking the law. Even knowing the statutes by heart by now

A United States passport TRUMPS a birth certificate, dickhead. That's all I'm saying. My "I have a law degree" thing that you think is useless, is to make it perfectly clear that I'm not asking them to go out of their way or do things for me that they shouldn't ordinarily DO. They're breaking the law refusing to accept my United States passport for everything I'm asking for, that's it in a nutshell. I've had my passport confiscated by Border Patrol one time in 2016, they were breaking the law doing that, too. And that wasn't even around here. That was at the OTHER border.

And as for your thinking that anyone born here was given a Number automatically when we came out of our mother's birth canal, no it wasn't either, not back when I was born. Check your timeline on the things you think are "automatic." I was born over 50 years ago when things like that weren't either "automatic."

Government agencies breaking the LAW. Film at 11.
