I'm curious if I can get from the lower states through Canada to Alaska without a passport? I'm not planning on making the trip until sometime next year but I can't get a passport because I owe the state lots of money which I can't realistically pay anytime soon.

Thanks, it's pretty expensive but nothing compared to what I owe in court fees lol. For anyone else interested the route is from Bellingham, Washington - Whittier, Alaska it's about 800$ without a cabin.

i've taken the ferry many times. cheaper to fly and you don't need a passport for either. last time, i only paid for the fare from bellingham to ketchikan and then just stayed on to whittier, saving several hundred bucks in the process. course ya take the risk of getting caught, but as long as you don't get off at the layover ports you'll most likely be fine. i've never remembered security or workers walking around checking people's tickets, unless it's gotten more strict in recent years

Seattle to Anchorage $108. Alaska Airlines.

You don't need a passport if you're entering the US from the US. You only need a passport if you enter a foreign country, or re-enter the US from a foreign country. Flying over a foreign country doesn't count, neither do layovers in aiports in foreign countries, provided you don't leave customs.
