So I snatched up a "British 58" style pack last year from a military surplus. They said it came from the owner's personal collection.. First thing that interested me was the complete lack of zippers(I fucking hate zippers. I think that their place is on sleeping bags, and that's it). For a pack with no frame, it's surprisingly comfortable to me(last pack was a med Alice w/frame). Everything on the pack is either cotton, cotton webbing, or steel clips, buckle, eyelets, etc.

The "tick" portion is pretty large. Big enough to put more than a couple gallon jugs inside it. Two external side pockets on the "tick". There are helmet straps you can secure extra shit with, bed roll straps, a poncho roll(I keep my tarp in it), two kidney pouches, right hand pouch, left hand pouch, and mine came with an extra removable pouch.

One of the coolest features about it(that I just fucking discovered AFTER traveling last summer) is that you can remove the main compartment from the yoke, and just carry your yoke/utility belt around town while your heavy shit pouch is stashed in some bushes behind the Dollar General. :D

I don't understand all the zipper hate. I still get wood when I hear a zipper:D.

Yeah, yeah, pics!

Can't wait to buy a new pack when I get some cash.

I should post a pic of my alice with cargo shelf and an ammo can.

Show 'em how to set up the backbreaker at least;)

Bulletproof.

I haven't really seen a show off your pack thread on StP, just the occasional thread (like this one) where someone posts their pack which is awesome, especially with the descriptions of components and assembly. But why not start one (or just post em to this thread) and if you think your pack is cool/awesome/the shit/whatever, post away?

I'll post mine tonight.

A few years ago now, and a fair bit chunkier since two years on the road, haha, but this is the best pic of my pack I have surprisingly. Poor little guy needs a photoshoot.

And here it is: medium Alice with frame, a molle kidney pad and sleep system carrier, canteen with carrier on the kidney pad, a pouch for my scanner (I don't typically roll with the antenna attached like in the pics, I just put it on to illustrate the location), and a couple first aid cases.

This guy kicked me down an oakley book bag. Its pretty small but this fucker is high quality. I've managed to get all my shit in, or on it with the use of bungie straps. The thing I like most about it is the super heavy duty bucklea it sports. They do add significant weight though.
To help you understand how much I can get in amd on this thing ill tell yoy I got more in and on this 40L pack than I could on my last pack which was 65L.
Still want a military pack tho.
