Hello, looking through this site, seems to lack Australians. Shame!
Done a fair bit of squatting, hitching. Happy to answer questions regarding that sort of thing from an Australian perspective.
Interested in minimalist solar.
Have a mountain shack that I visit irregularly.
Will travel in Central & Eastern Europe.
Interested in interesting people.

Welcome.
I really want to travel Australia someday. I find it to be a fascinating place.
The geology and the wildlife.
One of my favorite nature docs was on Lake Eyre.
Sounds like you have some stories to share.
Look forward to it.
Also, Mountain shack... epic.
I would love a peaceful getaway like that.

It's a good country alright, very relaxed people and easy winters. The US looks pretty nice too, same as Aust. desert, tropics, forest, beaches, all in the one country.
Cool summers, trout fishing, poaching. Mountain shack is epic that's for sure. It's a bit rough though, pit toilet and still building it, but that's fine by me.
Lake Eyre's pretty harsh country but beautiful. If you like that sort of thing you should look up Lake Mungo.

Hey, I'm in Australia. Been in Brisbane the last few days, going to try catchin a ride to the Gold Coast before the weekend.

There's a blues fest in Byron Bay about a month from now that I'm going to try to catch.

Welcome aboard. I've actually seen several new members from Australia, Mexico, UK recently. Have a friend who moved there from British Columbia. Big bicyclist - she has been known to do upwards of 5,000-10,000 miles (back before she was married hehe - she's an ultra bicyclist). And I'm sure she's putting the miles on there as well - she's sent back some great pics too. I'd like to get there some day.

Long time to answer, haha, but: it's pretty easy, depending where you are. In large cities and towns waiting and washing dishes is the easiest work to get, bar work requires a ticket sadly. Construction sites that aren't union, the small ones, will hire labourers, tradesmen too sometimes.
Generally if you're only working a few weeks and it's unskilled labour nobody cares about work visas, watch people underpaying you though.
