Hi!

Interested in Barcelona, but debating uprooting from the other side of the country for it or not. Anyone have any good directions on finding a squat out there? Do people really go to infoshops and find a place through locals? Would Catalan get me in more doors than Spanish?

Thanks.

Catalan will get you in more doors than castellano.

There are tons of group houses and artist collectives and so on.

If you're biking around and using warm showers you will find some.

I can put you in touch with Arcadi at can madro near Sant Pol de mar if you're biking around. (He helps with the Ecotopia bike tour most years)

And from there they have links to many other communities.

Also red ibérico de ecoaldeas may have some leads for you.

There's a lot going on there. As always the question is what one is looking for and what one hopes to do and how does that end up working with the situations of those you meet. . .

Generally the answer can have something to do with desire and sexuality and it's a rather creative and diverse ecology in that respect. Something I only got inklings of but which would take being able to read Catalan to develop a greater understanding of.

It's an entire activist subculture down there and the use of Catalan or variants extends from occitanie on the French side to the balearic Islands to Valencia in the south at least.

If you'll be on the French side more I have a document compiled in French about many of the communal situations and efforts going on there created by a couchsurfing ambassador guy.
