Book How I Found Freedom in an Unfree World: A Handbook for Personal Liberty

In 1973 Harry Browne sent a simple message -- that you can live the life you want to live. 40 years after the publication of How I Found Freedom in an Unfree World, it is now being reissued in digital format -- to reach the millions of people around the world that are still seeking a point of...

Book On the Inequality among Mankind by Jean-Jacques Rousseau

The aim of the Discourse is to examine the foundations of inequality among men, and to determine whether this inequality is authorized by natural law. Rousseau attempts to demonstrate that modern moral inequality, which is created by an agreement between men, is unnatural and unrelated to the...

Book Sacred Economics: Money, Gift, and Society in the Age of Transition by Charles Eisenstein

Sacred Economics traces the history of money from ancient gift economies to modern capitalism, revealing how the money system has contributed to alienation, competition, and scarcity, destroyed community, and necessitated endless growth. Question Do you guys find that the bike is too much of an issue for stealth camping/trainhopping etc?

@BikePunky can you provide more info on traveling with your bike on Amtrak? I've taken Scamtrak many times, but never with my bike and gear.

Best place to live in the woods long-term?

Just my humble opinion after spending 2 months in vast hills of Virginia near the AT--- This almost an impossibility to the "Average" person with very little knowledge in the ways of outdoor wilderness living skills. It'll be fun the first day, that is until you realize just how screwed you are...

    What's A Bag Loadout for Around $200?

FYI: Trust me when i say you'll need something more than a wool blanket. Been there, done that in the north cascades and froze my balls off- and that was in summer. Get yourself a sleeping bag. Panniers are easy to find- look around or make Em'.

    Old school bindle

Wool blankets are over-rated. I had one i used in the North Cascades and I froze my ass off! I ended up buying a nice 20 degree bag off of a PCT hiker. Problem solved. To hell with making things any harder than they already are.

@Older Than Dirt Thanks for the tips! Right now I'm rolling 700x38c tires. They seem to do good on pavement and gravel. If anyone on here has toured thru W Virginia(say, Harper's Ferry) going south I'd love some input.

    Where to go?

I'm thinking maybe I'll need to get an even better sleeping bag. Like -10 degree one. My current one is 15 degree north face. I'm pretty set on clothing. Mostly wool shirts, wool socks, down jacket, moisture wicking base layers, etc. Now I'm wishing I'd left way sooner. Such is life.

    Where to go?

@Older Than Dirt Now you've got me thinking- not sure if I really want to risk getting stranded somewhere, or dying of hypothermia in the middle of nowhere. I was hoping to make it up to Canada and ride thru there, but, I do know it's not exactly the season to be doing that. I've got about a...

    Alone

I've watched this show quite a few times when I'm able and one thing is very clear- Unless you have your shit together, you're not going to make it very long in the wilderness just by fishing and trapping. There is such a thing called Rabbit starvation. UNLESS you have a hunting rifle, or...

Homemade saddle bags / pannier ideas ?

I've built the bucket panniers using the kit from Jandd. They were cool but if you lay your bike down or it fall the buckets will crack/break. I prefer the soft pannier bags. I took the kit off of my buckets and attached them to bags I got at a discount. If one of my bags ever tear and I can...

    Dealing with Loss and Aging

A good friend of mine who passed at age 63 always told me- it's easier to be young and broke than it is to be old and broke. With that said, as I get older, the writings of Seneca and Marcus Aurelius have really helped me see life from a different perspective. By far the most rewarding reading...
