heyhey, I'm buddy!

very bad with intros, I guess I'd best describe myself as a biker. I love working on and riding motorcycles. I currently have an '03 harley sportster that I'm tryna make a frisco chopper out of. love hiking, stealth camping, and trains as well. also pretty deep into eastern spiritualism. hmmm. I listen to a lot of hardcore and stoner metal too.

I'm from NYC+NJ. been fascinated with nomadic lifestyles since I was kid. have been pushed to the precipice of fucking off and hitting the road many, many times in my life but ultimately things "got better" and here I am sorta just making shit work. covid was a blessing in disguise as far as rent in NYC went, so I'm pretty much set til my lease is up... but after this I doubt I'll be able to afford living here anymore. I expect costs to skyrocket again as things return to "normal."

so the plan is to hit the road with what I have: a bike, a hiking pack, and some barebones camping supplies. as well as whatever I can scrounge up in the next year or so: mainly firsthand experience, information, and like-minded acquaintances.

would love to tap in with any motorcycle rubbertrampers out there.

thanks, and I hope to learn a lot lurking around here! as well as teach what little I can. hare krishna!

Welcome to stp! Former rider here, 5 years on a vstar 650. Not exactly the most comfortable for long trips, even with highway pegs, but it got me around! Saddlebags? Bitch bar? How you lugging your gear on it?

fuck yeah! sick bike. and word, definitely not a goldwing or other la-z-boys on wheels. but whats better than what u got?

did u travel on it long term? if so, how'd u like it? any tips?

and yep, sissy bar all the way. just gonna strap a duffle bag + hiking pack onto it. might look into a pair of saddlebags but I really wanna try and keep things fairly light.

thanks for the welcome!

Long trips were murder lol... I would always ride for 4 or 5 hours and then stop for an hour to stretch and walk. I definitely recommend breaks like that so the stress on your body doesn't compound. There were even times when I would sit cross legged once I was on the highway as long as traffic wasn't heavy. The sissy bar is great, I did like you and put a pack on the back and one on the front of the bar.

Also, on a bike, tarp is superior to tent because you can keep your bike covered and use it as a wall 👍🏻 Sucks getting on a wet bike in the morning, especially if you had to ride in rain the day before. That reminds me, get waterproof inserts for your packs or use your tarp and a whole bunch of bungees to keep everything covered if you have to ride in rain, which you will sooner or later lol

Be careful, cages can be assholes sometimes.
