What if we just did a really informal show-and-tell type thing? Like instead of a scheduled workshop on one topic we just set aside an hour or two for people to present what they want. Could be tips on how to do something, or a demonstration of how to use certain gear or even just a story from the road. That way if anyone has something they want to teach they can, otherwise it's just a fun story-sharing thing.

Well, there definitely was interest in doing a performance night, so we could adapt that to be a show and tell, open-mic kinda time, you can play music, tell a story, read a poem or something, do tricks, yeah, we can do a talent show...

Also, my kendo sticks are up for use, and I can do a kendo lesson, and set up some matches.

There's also DnD shit here, if anyone wants to run a campaign.

We can just do what comes naturally.

i like both those ideas, that way there's still a time to do workshoppy things without the pressure of doing a scheduled presentation.

i've had this idea for a long time that i would like to make happen this year, which is a late night campfire story telliing session, where people share their best stories. i'm working on puttting together some unique prizes for the best stories, and i think it would be a lot of fun especially once everyone's all good and boozed up :)

Fuck yeah DnD!

Embarassingly enough, I have a belt pouch full of dice!

Sounds like fun!

@zim what is nvc?

DND would be awesome, but organizing a session would be a task for sure. Still, I know first addion (so does caveman) very well so I'll gladly help and am down to play.

Im particularly interested to learn how to play path finder if anyone knows.

I know this is late, but I just decided spontaneously that I am coming, Furthermore, I know this is random, but I speak fluent Hebrew and would be happy to teach people to read. THe coolest thing about Hebrew is that since its been the same language for 2000 + years you can read the original text of the bible. Not religious myself but still find the concept fucking cool...

Archon, hey : )

you know.. i wish i could read Chinese, Sanskrit (or whatever the early Dhammapada was transmitted in), or even fucking Aramaic..

So, so many deep fjords from the places humans go when they seek to find the ways that truth can be said..

strange, too, how closely even love & wisdom keep company with foolishness & prejudice..

road rage & picking up strangers...

st. Paul was a fucking asshole, but still said a lot of good shit..

Lao Tzu said some beautifull, sweet stuff..

& Socrates & the Christ..

but every single fucking one of us fucks up somewhere...

anyways.. off thread, but i agree.. if hebrew could be learned in 3 days, i might start walking there, now..

moses & his murder be damned, & yahweh pissing upon his own lies, if it claims all they said it said was true..

ah.. they all die blind, thinking the war is about killing what is not true..

& Yahweh is a single light, unnamed & the light that precedes light..

damn the fuckers who claimed it desired the death of Children..

damn *us*, for taking so long to learn..

& damn every fucking being that ever sought a need to be great..

but, oh.. if i could understand what was whispered,
when told to listen to the still, small voice..

i would die just to know those few words..

if your knowledge Blesses
you Breath,

i Envy you..

all i have is this carnal bastard english, spitting Tumors..

but at least the illness knows it is ill

& at least from there

Miracles can not only be

demanded

but done..

small ones.. like the gathering of those whom have nothing

into a desert which has perhaps less,

under a Sky

that carries All that means

anything..

if yer going to teach, teach carefully, so that the little bit that can be carried

means the

most...

I was thinking about maybe doing a presentation on autonomous spaces and squats around the world and then opening it up to a collective group discussion on people's experiences in different places like these... Anyone interested in also presenting/discussing something like this?

you know, the Library itself is one of those places, so yah.. super appropriate..

unfortunately i may not make it, so i can't speak regarding whom might like to work with upon those direct lines

what i can suggest, though, is that if the information is to be presented for practical consideration, that it concentrate upon the US, as that is where most of us would probably be able to best offer our resource of efforts.

certainly throughout the world, also, at least as annotation, but if the discussion/workshop is geared towards practical participation, then focusing on the US might be best.

if you are doing a philosophical overview, then that certainly requires a broader scope.

i would not concentrate entirely upon successes..
search out some incidents of both short term & protracted failures.. small scale communities don't have to last forever, & if they achieve even a brief period where most participants can say "the place was essentially fair", then for however long it lasted, the minimum goal & functional 'purpose' of humanity was met.

met or became or was dreamed...

in any case, failure is a great teacher, because it shakes the tiddley-shit out of you..

if you keep going after the fucking wreck, there isn't a fucking thing that can stop you.

anyways..

a cool & important idea..

What about Knots? I can't give a workshop about knot tying but I'd definitely be interested in participating. And some of y'all might not realize that your knot knowledge base could be super beneficial to some of us who can barely tie our shoes. Lol
This would be awesome! I've been wanting to learn some new knots. I know a few of the handy/basic ones but there's definitely room for improvement.

if someone volunteered to be tied up then it would become an entirely different kind of workshop :p

Unfortunately my stay down there is gonna be limited.. First workshop is drive like hell to get there, second is sleep, 3rd is distribute booze & accretions of shit, 4th is run like hell to get however much food can be gotten, 5th is to go over the ApocolyptoVan with Matt & the Library, 6th may be more sleep or cooking or crawling under yer damn rig with whatever tools & parts we have..

Then some more driving like hell.. : )

A workshop would have been cool, but turned out to just be not enough time..

Do you have the part?
