Ive traveled the west coast of canada for a few years now, grew up here and ive hitched everyplace, just want to let people know about the hidden gems, we have a seasonal migration of people traveling from out east every year to pick fruit and iam always asked for info, and for anyone wanting to come from up south will know what to expect, anyone else traveling round bc share some of your fravorite spots--

Fruit picking in the okanogon
My fravorite place to pick is kermous, rave party ever 2 weeks, full moon partys, lots of french travelers, work lasts almost all the warm season, cherries, apples, grapes

Golden, field

Nelson
Hippy capital of BC, checkout anisworth hotsprings, horseshoe shaped hotspring cave

Commercial and broadway, Vancouver
head down to the street , community for punks and always travelers panning

Sooke Potholes, sooke
3 waterfalls in a group, backflip each one after eachother, one of the best swimming in BC

Twin lakes, windermere
10 foot to 200 foot cliffs to jump into baby blue water, 60 foot ropeswing, another one of a kind swimming hole

Halfway and St.Leons Hippy Springs, free hotsprings
30 k north of nakusp, a must see after shambhala

Shambhala

Coastal rainforest of northern BC, mushroom picking, almost no people around, true wilderness, far into the void of the north but worth the trip

You got some of my favorite spots on there. I would like to add ocean falls to the list, its a huge ghost town located on the central coast. Easily reached by ferry from bella coola. It had the lagest hotel north of s.f. For many years, apartment blocks, hospital, bowling ally and all kinds of cool buildings to explore. Also a trip to b.c. is not complete without island hopping through the gulf islands. So many graet places to see in b.c. easy hitching around the province with many oppertunities to make mony. Lived there my whole life and will pobably never run out of places to explore.

I love nelson area too but also the whole slocan valley. i got picked up hitchhiking by a couple people living and working at Halcyon hot springs where they let me stay w/ unlimited pool usage! So of course I'm partial to that area. But that lake, mountain and forest at halcyon are definitely among the most magical I've seen. But anywhere along the slocan river is magic... I hope to explore BC a lot more so thanks for the list :)

Victoria was cool. Also, goldstream park was some kick ass hiking!
Mt finlayson, killer waterfall to swim at the bottom of, a 300 foot high train trestle that's decommissioned and about 100 years old. I had a fucking epic time out there. It was north of victoria about 30k. You can get there by transit. Good campsite near the entrance but its not free :(
We camped on the mountain and hiked the other side with the waterfall and trestle the next day.
Totally going bak there soon!

about the okanogen fruit picking what can i say, no u wont need a visa to work, lots of farmers will do cash, money from all fruit and veggie picking is shitty in BC because California drives the price so low, not to say that the best pickers cant make 300 canadian dollers a day on good cherry trees, tho most people dont, . hitching here is the primary way traveler types get around, theres a fuck of alot of them in summer,of which most are french or dirty raver kids, hippys, not many punks or street kids pick but some do.like me . cherries begin to ripen in the south around mid june, apples ripen later and last into the fall, then there's a growing wine industry in BC so work can continue into the late fall if your awesome and can always get the job. jobs have been easy to get for the last 2 years because of less people coming from out east. the okanogan is a desert, its hot and dusty, theres lakes around every town its a beautiful area of our province. theres always picker camps set up in each town for people to sleep at and party, and lots of backwood partys all season

if theres any questions you guys have about the harvest in particular ill answer when i can, no stupid questions like how to get into canada

Priceless info - I'm heading that way sometime in early June, planning to tour around mostly by thumb and rail, and take work if it comes my way.
Yeah, I'm thinking along the same lines. If you want a travel partner let me know! :)

yep yep yep I've done the fruit pick for a few years out there and its still one of my favourite experiences that I've encountered so far. fucking magic! so much beauty and tons of festivities in the okanagan summertime times.

everything east of T is amazing, but coming west is actually pretty boring until western alberta. the rockies until the coast is what's worth coming for!

i could tell you countless stories about orchard life but maybe in time we can both sit around and trade once you get some of your own! i will say that cherries are definitely where the party is, and kind of a goldmine, oh yea and fucking delicious. a little bit competitive though, theres usually more cherry pickers than jobs, or a few days work at one orchard and then a few days work at another somewhere else. what i found rocks during cherry season is moving over to a vineyard and doing maintenance on the vines. same time of year, really chill, good pay, too. but it is less party.

you'll end up there anyways, but definitely spend time in osoyoos and keremeos. yes.
