What's up! - Train Hopping from MN to West Coast

I joined this community to try and get information on train hopping out to the west coast. I am thinking about leaving after the spring semester of school. I've never been to the West Coast and want to get out to Washington and maybe a bit of Cali. Pretty brief but lmk if ya'll have suggestions or questions.
