Lots of correct answers on here. Ill put in one or two of my own too.
A multi-tool. Anytime I so someplace. The leatherman wave is my tool of choice but there are cheaper options as well.
The mini bic lighter. I carry two of these one in a pocket and one in my cooking stuff.
A buff. These are good for most head and neck covering needs. Mine is wool and a nice neutral gray that doesn't stand out.
Good comfortable shoes. You cant run from your problems in flip-flops.
A can do attitude. Otherwise your not going to get much of anything done.
A reason to be out and about. Can be arbitrary, immaterial, poorly defined. But having one helps. My favorite that ive used so far was "walk north, don't die"
