Hello, STP! I'm at the tail-end of my second whole day as a… uh, "an outdoorsman," and I'm eager to learn more about the lifestyle afore I manage to get myself killed. My story's that I've been jumping from house to house for most of the second half of my 21 years, and I've been curious about that "doom" I've been so narrowly avoiding. After losing my apartment and moving in with my dad for a year, I decided to ease of his expenses: he's just as hard-up for work as I've been, and more ballast is not what he needed.
I'm a self-taught computer-programmer, and I'm experienced with kitchen-work (as a paid employee and volunteer). At the behest of a local student and old friend, I'm living in Gainesville, FL: I can still count on one hand the number of days I've ever even been near this town. Having a student with a dorm providing storage and cereal-bars makes me feel like I'm still on "easy mode"; but we've all got to start somewhere, right?
Aesthetically, I'm more a nerd than anything. Hell; I'm watching anime at a 24-hour copy-shop, to pass the evening! Since no one's question my wandering on and off campus, I guess that I don't register as a hobo… yet. The free pizza will be enjoyed while it lasts. My looks and demeanor are kept as vanilla as possible, really, to allow for ease in diplomacy. People, nonetheless, say I'm very weird.
The newness of the experience is making me very highly strung, so I've probably already said far more than I've needed to share. I can't learn the basics of this way of living quickly enough, and I look forward to becoming a member of this community. I'm extraordinarily glad that a wealth of information such as this exists.
