Texas state law says you can remain up to 24 hours at any rest area, picnic area, scenic overlook, roadside park, or travel information center. You can read this law here... [Rules for Using Rest Areas in Texas - Boondocker's Bible - https://www.boondockersbible.com/documentation/rules-for-using-rest-areas-in-texas/](https://www.boondockersbible.com/documentation/rules-for-using-rest-areas-in-texas/)
**424** of these rest areas are defined by the Texas DOT as "picnic areas", which are effectively rest areas without restrooms. These can include scenic overlooks, roadside parks, and truck parking areas. Some of these are small enough to accommodate only one car or van. Others are large enough to fit dozens of semi-trucks and RVs.
**78** of these are actual "rest areas".
**12** of these are "travel information centers" which are rest areas with a staff-attendant that answers questions for travelers.
**NOTE:** There are other online maps marking Texas rest areas, however they do not include the "picnic areas". It took me a long time to research them all out!
Enjoy!
