Big up the mud wizard! Riot police vs climate change activists in Germany. Pepper spray is futile when you're a wizard. Here's a a brilliant video of incompetent riot police, just a small, more amusing section of the final showdown.

This comedy gold aside, over 15,000 activists returned after being evicted in 2020 to try and protect their village, Lüetzerath, from bulldozers and huge land clearing machinery to make way for a coal mine. German activists are opposing the energy company RWE from extracting lignite (brown coal) from beneath their village. The Ukrainian war has lead to apparent gas shortages so now the German govt. stated a temporary re-reliance on coal. The economics ministries led by the Greens in the federal and state governments of North Rhine-Westphalia, where Lüetzerath is located, had agreed on a compromise with the energy company RWE, which includes digging up the coal under Lützerath – but 8 years earlier than planned.

This eviction will become a huge burden for the green party. The police actions do not correspond to the political ideas of the green electorate. Climate activists from within the Green party say it was a “calculated undermining of the Paris climate goals” - On climate, German Green Party supporters feel betrayed – DW – 01/22/2023 - https://tinyurl.com/2rstfsw4

Activists from all over Europe arrived to support the huge movement and people worldwide stand in solidarity.

Hardcore activists have been collectively building their fortress - residing in treehouses & squats and have been living autonomously in protest since 2020. They cook thousands of meals a day, build barricades and erect structures suspended off the ground and under the ground in tunnels. They tried to remain peaceful but as this final showdown escalated, molotov cocktail, stones and pyrotechnics were thrown in the direction of the officers who began violently removing activists.

Here's a link to an article with some pretty powerful pictures. It's devastating that the coal mining fuckers succeeded.
