Howdy! I'm K, I'm 24, male, and a college graduate. I'm very passionate about music, philosophy, and math, among other things.

I finished a 7 month backpacking trip recently, and confirmed all my suspicions that I am much happier living in the woods and being mobile. I was inspired by many people during the trip who had experience being homeless, but still holding down jobs by living in tents on the outskirts of towns, etc. Eventually my goal is to transfer to living in the woods exclusively, using subsistence farming, hunting, and foraging to survive, but in the next 1-2 years I'll need to make some money to finish paying off student debt. I don't want to wait til that's paid off to start transitioning to living in the woods though, so I figured this whole "outskirts" thing is the perfect solution.

I would like to meet others here who have experience doing this, and pick your brain for tips.

I also REALLY want to meet others here who are trying to enact the same plan and would like a companion for mutual safety, motivation, support, and friendship.

I have some outdoor survival skills, but obviously I'll need to learn more, and if we partner up we can learn these things together.

All in all I'm excited a place like this exists and I look forward to conversing with you all!

Good intro! And it seems like you have your plans laid out and know exactly what you want to do (lol at your age I was more or less interested where the next party was ...) - good for you! If you search out the different forums on this site - you'll find a lot of the information ---- plus links to other resources --- that you might need and help you. Good luck and always - have fun!

Welcome sir. I have lived outside while working in a few different cities and it is a great way to save money. One tip I have is to get a gym membership to shower at as mostjobs require you to be clean.

one trick to keep people from messing with your campsite while you're away at work is to hang a respiratory maskon your tent/structure so it looks diseased. Pissing in the same spot every morning will make your site smell bad to keep people and animals away.

If I knew then what I know now...

I would have turned my suits into drycleaning one or two at a time, using the drycleaners as a closet. Keeping my well paying corporate job, shortening my commute, keeping costs down, maintaining a ruse of "normal" homelife and saving cash for something real instead of blowing it on living expenses.

The cost of rent can make a person into a slave.
