Greenhorn in Colorado

Hey guys, in need of some advice
I've been rubber trampin around the states and starting to get car sick. I'm wanting to start hitch hiking/train hopping starting in Denver east to Virginia, any advice on traveling through Kansas, Missouri, Kentucky, West Virginia? Need to get to Virginia By the tenth for lockn', if anyone is headed that way, shoot me a message!
