This is awesome.
I wonder if US postal offices sell foreign stamps...

Gonna try remember to ask next time I'm there

When was the last time you wrote a letter? Well, you may want to pick up a pen and paper, quill and ink perhaps, and kick it old school because Germany is giving a great reason to send postage to your friends with the Lemmy Kilmister stamp series!

The late Motorhead icon’s famous visage will grace five different stamps (one of which can be seen below) which will arrive in a package of 10. The tribute was made possible through the joint effort of the Deutsche Post and the newspaper Bild, with an official statement reading, “The German official post office Deutsche Post together with Bild are honoring our beloved late Lemmy Kilmister with an official set of German postage stamps for standard size letters. One stamp package contains 10 stamps, five Lemmy motifs altogether and everyone can compile the stamps the way they like. These stamps are limited to 7777 – Lemmy’s lucky seven – and will be available for four weeks only, between May 17 and June 17,” [via TeamRock].

The stamps will be available at the Bild website.

“A great artist, a gentleman, an honest and loyal person, an icon for many and an inspiration for his fellow artists and fans,” the newspaper added.

Since Lemmy’s passing, there has been an outpouring of tributes from around the world. Fans started a petition to change the Jack and Coke drink that was a fixture in the legend’s hand to be simply dubbed ‘The Lemmy’ and a Swedish Thunder Car race has been changed to the ‘Lemmy 500‘ where Saxon will perform with surviving Motorhead members, drummer Mikkey Dee and guitarist Phil Campbell, to play some classics for the fans in attendance.

Motorhead will be releasing a live CD/DVD, Clean Your Clock, on May 27. The set is culled from the band’s final two performances in Germany on Nov. 20 and 21, a little over one month before the icon died on Dec. 28, just two days after his 70th birthday.

I've actually been pen paling inmates throughout the States for almost 5 years now. One of them is a old school biker tattoo artist who will get such a huge kick out of these stamps!
I'm not large on making money off the dead, but if it means putting a smile on a friend's face, then I may just send him all 10 to keep if I'm able to purchase. Thanks for sharing.

Monthly Goals

  1. Paying the Bills
    $10.00 of $50.00
The first $50 in donations go towards paying our monthly server fees and adding new features to the website. Once this goal is reached, we'll see about feeding Matt that burrito.
  2. Buy Matt a Beer
    $10.00 of $75.00
Now that we have the bills paid for this month, let's give Matt a hearty thank you by buying him a drink for all the hard work he's done for StP. Hopefully this will help keep him from going insane after a long day of squishing website bugs.
  3. Feed Matt a Burrito
    $10.00 of $100.00
Now that the bills are paid and Matt has a beer in his hand, how about showing him your love by rewarding all his hard work with a big fat burrito to put in his mouth. This will keep him alive while programming new features for the website.
  4. Finance the Shopping Cart
    $10.00 of $200.00
Now that the bills are paid and Matt is fed, perhaps it's time to start planning for those twilight years under the bridge... if only he had that golden shopping cart all the oogles are bragging about these days.
