A big hobby of mine, and hopefully a few of yours, is Tabletop gaming. Y'know, D&D, Call of Cthulhu, etc.

Lately, I've been wondering about gaming on the road/rails, and how, if at all, it would work. Have any of you had experiences tossing the D20 while you're out and about? It seems possible, what with the only real tools needed being a set of dice, some paper, and a writing device.

I get what you're saying but even as a player I always had a bunch of books, maps, character sheets, etc. If DM'ing it would be worse.
You might have better luck dropping in at the local comics/game shop and trying to find a pick up game.

There's actually an old thread on here that has links to downloadable pdfs for d&d books also think you could just google it. Blizzard? I think that owns it has the older versions for free. Just make sure you have a extra battery pack for your phone or whatever

A round of ten thousand anyone?

Fortunately you can transfer or find ebooks for most popular tabletop rpg games. So all one would need to carry is a tablet, but it will require a charger. Still, much less weight than carrying around books. I would probably just have a physical scratchpad for extra notes.

yeah the tablet would work, especially if it's an eink one, once charge generally lasts about a month on those things.

also, what about other games like magic the gathering? that's portable...

One thing you can do is get the GM screen for your particular favored RPG, it has a lot of the DCs and such printed on a rather light board which can also double as a clean placemat for food.

Just a thought

Magic the gathering :) had a badass artifact deck. Run into a surprising amount of mtg players rolling through town.

Easy to carry too. Mine got wet and ruined, so there's that.

I haven't played any games like that but I want to. I'm going to try to convince my housemate to let me take the magic deck im making with me when I leave though, his cards.

One thing I've always wanted to do is make my own cards. Would love to have a power nine tourney with someone, but the cheapest you can find a black lotus is over 2 grand per card.

Saw a YouTube video on how to strip the ink off shitty cards and make them into whatever you want, seems like the most punk way ever to play the game. Take 40 bucks and have a game with beautiful holofoil cards that aren't originals, but they aren't over 20 thousand dollars a deck either. :) who's with me?

Scratch that, make it over three grand now.

2 grand? I have never had even one grand at any one point in time.

Well, I mean, you can always be brave and rack cards.

Yeah that's why it's bullshit. :) why should only rich people get to destroy with ancestral recalls or timewalks or black lotuses (loti?) I could go my whole life and never even see one, but it's the best card in the game, so it's a bucket list thing of mine to get 4 of them for less than 30 bucks. :) fake, but beautiful and playable.

Edit:

Shit, here's one for 7.8 thousand dollars.
