    Thermal Cameras

It still comes down to profit. Does super security add to profits or diminish them? If it's just extra expense to implement without a definite return on investment, I don't see it having a huge impact. Not to say it won't at some point, but I'm skeptical for now.

Train Rider killed in accident (Delmar Ross)

I saw a sad story about an unidentified train rider killed in an accident in Evandale, OH on August 4th. They thought he was a rider from out of state, but turns out he was from around the Cincinnati area. They did identify him and his name was Delmar Ross, just in case anyone here knows him.

All I want to do is drink beer, ride trains, and be free...

I'm sure you don't need me to tell you that there's trade offs in life, few good things come without some kind of tough choice or effort. I don't think life will go too far off the rails by staying on them;)

Major reckoning regarding....what to do next?

I wish I had a great answer for you. Happiness is the goal, period. Do what makes you happy and see where the chips fall. I have wanderlust, until I wander for a month, then it's back to my family, rinse wash repeat. Perhaps there is a cycle you can return to or discover that provides what is...

News & Blogs The latest trend in RV'ing: Getting way off the grid

We’ve moved out of our RV for the first time In over four years because of Covid and the issues caused by it. We were still managin to find a few inexpensive or free spots around, but it was becoming totally hit and miss. We have a spot we rent for the summer in Wisconsin, so we‘re just staying...

    Wife and gf

you have to do what you do. I’d work with her to officially divorce if you’re that far apart on life. You don’t want to be married and have legal entanglements coming back to haunt you later in life. Remember, she is entitled to half of everything you own and if she got clean and ended up...

Featured Wisconsin to Montana Freight Hop, Hi-Line Subdivision

Lots of people at least roll through Wisconsin. I've hopped out of Portage and LaCrosse and Hobo Johnny probably has quite a Wisconsin hopping resume.

Does anyone here have ADHD (the wanderlust gene)?

Well, yes, I explain why I hop freight trains to provide the stimulus missing from ADD. Hopping Freights Helps My ADD

Mom and kid are holiday van dwellers.

Very nice. I found out I liked lots of areas on the East Coast, which was a total surprise. South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, North Carolina. I guess it just depends on what you want to see and how much hot weather you want to put up with. Much of the south is kind of unbearable after May and...

Im about to buy an RV

If it's a diesel you definitely want to get it checked out by a mechanic. Otherwise, check the systems and look for signs of water damage like de-lamination of the siding, etc. The structural integrity can be seriously affected by water damage. Other than that, if it runs good, drives good and...

Mental health struggles while working on the road

Sounds like you’re really struggling. I have to remind myself to just live. I think you have to let life flow on its own and let it shake out. Of course, it’s easier said than done, but breathe, and enjoy the moment, relentlessly focus on the positive if you can.

    Photos I pulled the trigger....

That's fantastic. If I ever ended up alone for some reason, my first move would be from the RV into a van. I love my RV and the nomadic lifestyle, don't get me wrong, but I would do it a little differently if I were single. I'd spend a lot more time out west on BLM land. Keep us posted on the build.

Featured Wisconsin to Montana Freight Hop, Hi-Line Subdivision

If you’re riding out of Pig’s Eye on CP, they inspect the trains as they get ready for departure, but it’s just regular workers doing it as far as I know. There was no inspection on BNSF heading West at Midway or Northtown but it was about 2:00AM. Have fun.

The scenery ranks right up at the top of the list if you ask me. Whether it's the beauty of the mountains and rivers of the hi-line or just watching the backyards and farm fields slide by on the plains.

    People's project

SD is one of our favorite places to go through in terms of natural beauty, wide open spaces, free spots to boondock, etc. it’s a little backwards on laws, they treat possession of cannabis oils as a felony. People’s Project looks like a worthwhile cause.

    Illegal person domestic flight...

Yeah they have a whole list of relatively minor offenses that they can use to bar entry. It's on the Internet (list of crimes) and seems to me like the list is long enough that they could have just listed the crimes that don't bar you from entry;)

    Plains/Steppes with no People?

Buffalo Gap National grasslands in SD might fit the bill. Lots of other BLM land in SD would be accessible, but not necessarily empty of people.

    Illegal person domestic flight...

Yes with all the computerization of stuff, it’s hard to know what would happen with absolute certainty, but it appears that a government issued picture ID is all that’s required for domestic flight in Canada. I’d bet you’re friend is safe flying domestically.
  29. Gulysses3

    Illegal person domestic flight...

Interesting question for sure. I can’t imagine there would be any issues on a domestic flight since they are normally separate terminals from the international flights and security is more about no fly lists. I’m guessing it’s more important that he has a valid ID like the passport card or a...

    On Selling Out

I’ve been wanting another tattoo to remind myself to “just live” and not make something as simple as living more complex than it needs to be. Do what your soul compels you to do. As long as you treat others and the environment with respect, you can’t go too far wrong. Selling out would be doing...

Workamping in the Eastern Seirras Sucks

I don’t think the actual act of hunting helps animals, but the money raised from hunters and the habitat purchased, protected, maintained, etc., is probably extremely critical to survival of many species. I don’t hunt anymore myself but I spend as much time as I can fly fishing. I’ll never...

Greetings from an old hobo at heart!

Just wanted to say hello. I'm a nomad, although, I live in relative comfort wandering the country in an RV with my wife. I love hopping freight trains, something I did as a young man in the 1970's, and something I do now as time and opportunity allow. I just returned from a hi-line hop and will...
