    Introducing myself and hello all!

I'm planning on hitting road again 1st or 2nd week of August. Currently in Corbin Kentucky. If you get down this way, hit me up. Looking for a road dog myself. So much easier having someone else's back. Text: 606-545-3478

New to STP and kicked out!

Hey man and welcome! I love the mountains, all mountains, but especially ... the Appalachias. I was born and raised there. Southeastern Kentucky. Small town named Barbourville. I was just thinking today how great it would be to forage for the morels right now, as they are in season. Also, this...

Anyone ever try living/ traveling by canoe on the river?

First 4 or 5 seconds appears to be messed up. This was my buddy encountering a Class III. We done this for fun, but I would strongly recommend that if you kayak or raft as a means of travel, that you always familiarize yourself with your river. Research the river by name and find out about the...

Anyone ever try living/ traveling by canoe on the river?

Just below Cumberland Falls, Corbin KY ... From this point down to Noe's Dock (10 Miles) consists of many Class III & IV rapids. This of course, was done without carrying any type of camping gear.

Anyone ever try living/ traveling by canoe on the river?

A friend and I successfully floated a 74-mile section of the Cumberland River in southeast Kentucky in just 2 days. 10 hours paddling (off and on) per day. The first 70 miles was basically slow but steady paddling, with the last 4 consisting of Class II rapids. (Shoals) We were carrying quite a...

    Actual durable headphones?

Agree with "MarsOrScars".... I've had my $20.00 Wal-Mart Skull Candy ear buds for 2 years now. Have dropped em in water a few times as well. Still work perfectly fine. And to me, they seem louder than most buds in this price range.

Hello StP, this is my introduction!

Hey man and welcome! Lots of good reading here, you just have to dig in. I can tell you from experience that you should try to keep as low-key as possible when you have something to drink. Try to avoid crowds. I too, enjoy drinking. But I would suggest that you try keeping as low-key as possible...

    Yellowstoner - First Post!

Good Morning and welcome Mark! This site has lots of great reads and info. While I have been through Wyoming and Montana several times, I have yet to see Yellowstone. It's on my list for sure. Maybe you can give us all an employee's perspective on what to expect when rolling through by thumb...

    Best Steel Toes Yet!

These are by far the most comfortable steel toes I've ever owned. As I mentioned above, I gave my walking shoes (NB) away to lighten the load just because I felt easy walking in these things. Brought it up in the forum because I have read where guys are sometimes looking for a work boot to get...

    The Hitchhiker's Pilgrimage?

From Wikipedia- "A pilgrimage is a journey or search of moral or spiritual significance. Typically, it is a journey to a shrine or other location of importance to a person's beliefs and faith, although sometimes it can be a metaphorical journey into someone's own beliefs." Pilgrimage...

    Best Steel Toes Yet!

I have had many steel toe boots over the years including the top premium brands such as Red Wings and Rocky, as well as the more economical ones from Wal-Mart like the Herman Survivors, which in my opinion were the best all-around work boot on the market, considering wear and tear and price...

Wren Hollow Outreach for Misfit Travelers!

Hey Sock Monkey, nice to meet ya! I googled Wren Hollow and first page saw lots of results for an elementary school in ... Missouri, I think. Anyhow, what you have going sounds interesting. Brand New Here, Greetings From San Diego

Canavan, cool office! I was assuming you had some type of camper van. This appears to be a flat bed of sorts. Do you sleep in the small confines of the cab, or hit up the motels ... maybe pitch a tent from time to time? The flat bed would be a great cook platform for a charcoal grill to be sure.

    Hello from Seattle

Vancouver Island looks awesome, at least so much so in the reality series "Alone." The first two seasons was shot there, with season 3 currently airing from Patagonia, South America. BC is on my bucket list for sure, beautiful country up there!

    lost and soul searching.

Motels can tend to get stuffy sometimes, even when someone else pays for them. Perhaps, you may want want a change of scenery? The getting there can be penniless, the friends along the way, priceless. Welcome to the campfire!

Brand New Here, Greetings From San Diego

Hello Canvanan and welcome! A road dog is anyone who travels along with you. I.E. Hitchhiking, Rubber-Tramping, and/or Train Hopping. Although, the latter is usually known as a Fellow 'Bo. (Hobo) At least, that's always been my understanding. You mentioned, thinking about taking people along...

    Hello from Seattle

Hey Matlock and welcome to the world of travel! I was coincidentally browsing Alaska's craigslist and came across this post. NYC and sleeping rough

Sounds like maybe you're there because of the New Year's Eve party? If so, that would be totally cool. However, after the party is over, I'd say get the hell out of NYC and hit somewhere warmer. As you mentioned, the competition will be rough, not to mention winter is fast approaching and most...

My name's Dustin I'm new! Need traveling ideas and advice!

Hey Dustin and welcome to the world of travel! Because of your age and experience level, I'd recommend you try finding a buddy (road dog) that can join in your adventures for awhile. Ideally, someone that has a few miles behind the belt. Finding someone can be tricky and sometimes, more often...

    Anyone looking for the same?

Far too often, we read posts that indicate an urging to leave after winter is over. Winter just officially began 5 days ago. A lot can happen between now and spring. Which brings me to the next thought ... What happens when you are out there and the winter starts all over again? Nomads have the...
