What do you guys do to pass time on road? How do you deal with boredom? What do you do when you don’t have enough money for the fun festivities in the town/city you’re in or you don’t know anyone, what’s your favorite thing to do?

Doing boring things with fascinating people. That's my jam. It's generally free and you can find fascinating people everywhere, usually.

I usually hole up and play a lot of video games until I know I'll be free again. That'll only take you so far though, it's been a couple of years and the vidya games aren't quite cutting it for a substitute for the road :(

80 days to go!

I think the reason a lot of people have jobs is because they have nothing better to do with their lives. Boredom is a symbol of your freedom.

Books are cheap and usually free. Don't read trash all the time pick something that will challenge you. Writing is just as cheap too, and more difficult and time consuming. Who cares if you aren't good at it sounds like nobody is around to read it anyway lol. Keeping a journal will help you remember the cool free things you do.

I also don't think there's anything wrong with daydreaming or just staring at the wall/clouds and thinking. I do it at least 20 minutes a day.

Don't forget to take a nap.

I always carry a shit ton of Sakura markers on me and draw up something big or just a small little character I write.

This is actually a very good suggestion for cheap thrills. Get yourself some Sakuras or Markals(I prefer Sakura, AKA Mean Streaks back in my days) and go put some color on the grays of your nearest concrete jungle.

If you feel like you aren't very good at it, remember - Practice doesn't take talent. This goes for just about anything, playing an instrument, singing, making art of any sort really.

It's a real mind fuck... and so much FUN~```~~~~~~!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Also... if you stop by a liquor store or gas station often there are local township newspapers for free....

They got sudoku and crossword puzzles and the police blotter and obituaries are interesting to read through.

Good luck keeping at bay the scourge of boredom... the true pathogen.

The most wize advice... ::cigar::
Think about what u did when you were a house before u got kicked out. I think most of us had a wife variety of interests and traveling narrows that to like 2 hustles u do constantly. It's your option what you want to spend your time doing, don't forget it

I'll iterate 'do boring things with fascinating people' for sure.
Personally, I'd drink beer just enough to stop worrying, then just vibe on the atmosphere, if I was in a natural place. Try to understand nature. Or read a book on local flora and fauna. What around you is edible? Combustible? Toxic or dangerous? What kind of rock is that, and how was it formed? All that kind of stuff. The curious are never bored. :)

Now THAT'S what I'm talking about!

Naps are the best. I try to get a couple in everyday.

I think the reason a lot of people have jobs is because they have nothing better to do with their lives. Boredom is a symbol of your freedom.

This is so true. When I had to work for a living, i knew I was getting jipped. Life has to be about more than just working 40 hours a week, 50 weeks a year, so you can pay the debt you took out because you couldn't afford the house, the cars, the wardrobe, the private schools for the kids, that you bought with money you didn't have, just to impress people you don't even like!!

I had to retire earlier than I planned, because of circumstances I couldn't plan for, so I didn't qualify for the retirement check I was aiming for. But you know... I'm doing very well. I can afford nearly everything I truly want/need, as long as I plan for it.

The boredom doesn't strike me very often. But when it does, I just think how happy I am not having to give myself to a boss, making less than I'm worth, just to have food to eat, place to sleep, and facilities to bathe and keep my clothes clean, so I can get up tomorrow earlier than I want to, to go back to the J.O.B. and start the whole thing all over again.

Like I said, I don't get bored often. I spend my time with various online interests, watching movies and other interesting things on TV, and getting outdoors for a bit every chance I get.

My life would seem boring to most people. But I love it. And I'm not rich in things that most people value. But my freedom, my other blessings, are worth more in peace, contentment, and self-esteem than the best job, the most money, and the social status that most people chase, that eventually amount to nothing but a ball and chain.

I guess what I'm really trying to say, is that life has so many opportunities for living "the good life". Take a walk in the park. Or the woods. Or hike over to the river, or that lake you've heard has good fishing. Get a bike. Learn to play an instrument. Or ten. And go outside your tent/camper and sit under a tree in the cool summer breeze, and serenade the birds, the crickets, and the moon.

Use your imagination. You'll find lots of rewarding activities. And it won't matter if you don't have the money to go to that festival, or movie, or out to eat. Because you'll be surprised how little you need, if you focus on things that are really value.

From a hobo point of view, I love to study freights. Everything about them. Hell, I go through the bags of trash the conductors throw out because of the tonnage sheets. Libraries - learn something new like from the Reference Section or continue memorizing the Railroad Atlas. Notes in a journal (or speech to text if you are young and like smartphones) and begin putting your memoirs in order. Tracking powerline runs if there are woods around them to spot out and store stuff for waystations you may need in the future. Read thru all the bus schedules as a friend may need the info down the road. Apply for Food Stamps. And the all time favorite for hobos, find a good base camp, thoroughly vet whom you bring in, and crank up the tunes while cooking food you dumpster dove getting completely hammered. When done, begin from the start in the next town. ;)

Usually I pick up some nonfiction from a free library & learn a skill, get lost in a card game, write down anything and everything I can think of (very effective), or start sewing something. Also plan ways to come up with cash, which typically ends up as selling a fixed up scavenged thing, which means fixing up a scavenged thing. If I have the energy I'll hop on my bike n go and see somethin I've wanted to

Graffiti will always destroy bordem in your life . Try it out sometime. If not willing to take the risk. drawing is a close second. I can you hear you now . You say " I cannot draw a stick person." Go to the dollar store get a coloring book and some crayons . You might be surprised how time flys when you draw.
