I joined the site May of 2019, so my introduction is a bit overdue. Happy to have found the site!
A bit about me: Grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area and had a relatively "normal" life, but always sought out adventure with longtime friends. We rode bikes, skateboards, and buses to get away from home. We explored the creeks in our neighborhoods, hung out in parks after dark, traveled to SF for shows, and went camping at least once a year (still do). I've lived in a few different places: Arcata, CA for a few years, Half Moon Bay, CA for a few years on a 8 acre ranch with no TV or internet, three miles from the ocean (most beautiful place so far), as well as Sacramento and currently back in the Bay Area. My most interesting jobs have involved: inspecting trees as a Utility Forest for a power company, working the manufacturing side of the craft beer industry for 4 years, and most recently a brewer for a Probiotic tea company.
Like many people here, I've been interested in trains since I was a kid, but I'm not a foamer. I never met my grandfathers; they passed away long before I was born, but my neighbor and family friend took that role. He was a total badass, WW2 vet who flew over Europe as a nose gunner on B-17s. Even took flak completely through his leg on one mission. However he wasn't an intense being, quite the opposite. He was a kind man who lost his wife while young and mostly kept to himself. He was a railroad photographer during the Steam era, a true fan of Southern Pacific RR, and known world wide for his model railroading skills long before the internet existed. My family adopted him and he adopted us. For that I am truly grateful.
That interest in trains, freedom, and the constant desire to travel brought me here. I've read a lot of interesting threads throughout the site and learned some very useful info. I've also traded info over PM with friendly and helpful people. To them once again: Thank you!
I welcome anyone in need of information related to vehicles to reach out and I will do my very best to help in any way possible. I worked in a Toyota Parts Department for 5 years, my passion is vehicles, and I've owned and maintained various cars, trucks and motorcycles over the last 20 years. Safe travels!
