Hi there, I'm rat and I just left home to travel the states, see the sights and meet friends until summer when I'll be moving into a punk house in Denver (hopefully) I'm also currently sleeping on a rooftop in Atlanta

I plan on travelling however I can, but I'm staying in Atlanta for a few days while i figure out how I'm gonna get to South Carolina, and then to Oklahoma to hopefully get some work with a friend there. In the spring I'll be headed up the east coast to visit friends up north

as far as Georgia to south Carolina you should just take the train. it should be ez with a little research. i could help if you wanted. been online looking at trains and so on last few days. its all fresh again after 9 years of train study im hoping out this week. to Denver. im in grand junction now. was going to Alabama but that just changed yesterday. you can take the train to Oklahoma as well. hitching is slow and tedious IMO. it sucks and ppl throw shit at you. its hard for me to keep my cool a lot of times. but at the same time fuck them. honestly dude look into riding freight trains. they dont say no. just dont get caught.

dude, start with STPs guide to freight train hopping right here in the resources page. it will tell you everything you need to know to start asking the correct questions. there is an entire forum for train hoping and years of info if you use the search bar. make sure to read dates and make sure the info is good. if it is in question i like to ask the poster who posted it and see if they know if it is still good info. after STPs guide to train hopping you tube is a good place to watch hoppers in action. Stobe the Hobo is an epic hobo famous for his videos and high density information about trains there history and how they work where they go and how to tell. @Ranoutonarail is a good youtuber to watch as well. i use distant signal on you tube as well. also just today i found djstrains on you tube. he himself is a conductor and model train enthusiast with his own web page and blog. djstrains.com

in all of my research the most difficult part of trains is knowing you are going the correct direction and if you will make it without you train being broken up and left in a yard you don't want to stop in. and that is not difficult if your in the right spot. other than that train riding is mostly safety and not getting caught. gear doesn't change much from any other form of travel accept for clothing and protective gear.

here are some things to help you start as to not have to find them yourself
railroadfan.com

whrc-wi.org

radiorefrance.com

openstreetmap.org

openrailwaymap.org

those are what i use to navigate trains and gather info on direction. i have a whistler ws1010 scanner that will help. im just learning it now tho... but you tube man!!!! the rail fans are where all the information is at lol. those guys are more obsessed than any of us.... I personally have wanted to hop for more than 15 years... its sad i never have. been researching it for 9 years ( like when i learned it was still a thing) and just now obligation probation girlfriend free... free!!!! free to travel kinda... i have a 40 ft skoolie i need to fix or sell this winter/ spring. so im doing that, while i do this. there is no work here so i was thinking about riding to warmer weather and work for the winter. unsure rn tho...

I'll be doing my research later this afternoon after dark, for now I'll be enjoying the daylight and reading to pass the time.
also funny you should say god speed, as "god speed you rat bastard" was the last thing a friend said to me before i left home
