Some living in “Tent City” said the notices weren’t a surprise.

“It’s a pretty nice place,” said Antwan Lovell Harrison. “People get to live here.”

Antwan Lovell Harrison had been calling the area beneath I-794 home for a few months when FOX6 spoke with him Sunday, Oct. 6.

“I’m not surprised they were kicking anyone out,” he said.

“It’s kind of a bummer,” said a resident. “We all knew it was coming.”

“I just don’t really understand,” said a resident. “Are we that big of an eyesore?”

"...the Milwaukee Rescue Mission was among those trying to find the right balance in helping those living in the tents — working with other organizations to help pass out hygiene products to those in need. Officials said there’s room for people in need at their shelter near 17th and Kilbourn."

What isn't said is that the Milwaukee Rescue Mission is a hard-core, religious, right-wing outfit, heavily into preaching and kicking out people who just don't seem to measure up; very rigorous. Some would rather live elsewhere.

BUT. When it comes down to public parks, I kinda agree with the fact they cannot turn into tent cities. Just look at Eugene, OR to see why.

Homelessness is a problem not easily solved by criminalizing it. Y'all heard the story before.

This issue is very complicated, and needs to be a addressed in the way of WHY CAPITALSLISM IS FUCKING US, not why these people have a right to exist. For christ sake. If you add up: Religion+Capitalism/public education=We're fucked. It will all start to make sense.....hopefully.

I just rode my bicycle yesterday by Tent City.

There's plenty of stealthy places around MKE to pitch a tent.

Milwaukee Rescue Mission sucks, I heard many negative stories about that place. I'd rather pitch a tent at one of my stealthy camp sites than going there!

American religiosity has a strong Calvinist component. When this intersects with socioeconomics, Calvinists believe (to oversimplify) rich folks are rich because they are the Elect pre-chosen by gawd. Poor folks' poverty is evidence they are not among the Elect, and can therefore be justifiably shunned/abused.

To be fair, Cauvin himself wasn't claiming that. The problem with most ideas, as usual, is the adherents.
