The road is full of valleys and mountaintops. Spend enough time walking up and down em, and you develop this weird perspective. You can look back at the low times, and you can see the greater good that was at work within.
I was in Troy, IL for three days, stuck and counting cars while jamming and trying to hitch out. I never really became upset or frustrated...It was just one of those walks up the side of a mountain that promised a spectacular view. Even though I was exhausted and wanting to say fuck it and go to bed or just give up...I remained confident that the universe was working on SOMETHING.
During those three days, there was an epic fight happening in St. Louis, between the woman who picked me up and the guy she was dating...the guy I ultimately work for right now. At around the time I chucked my sign into the garbage and decided to walk the interstate, their fight came to a head. She left the job site pissed off, decided to take a drive to clear her head and calm down. Then there I was...6 miles into the middle of fucking nowhere, with 7 more miles til the next exit.
She picked me up, we went to the crew's favorite bar. The rest of the crew had finished the job, and she returns to pick em up and bring them to meet me. The five of us spend the next few days getting to know one another, and they get a chance to see just how far Ill run my dick into the dirt on a daily basis for an opportunity to live the kinda life I'm proud to brag about. And...it all worked out.
Evidence that despite how ugly things may currently seem, our universe is a kind and merciful thing. Sometimes it has to do things to you that leave you upset, doubtful, broken, and changed. But thats how it goes when it comes time to be snatched by the scruff of your spiritual neck and tossed on to the correct path. Nobody ever promised it'd be easy. Nobody ever promised it'd be fun. But if there's anything you can hope to see in life...bet your worthy little ass that one day, be it today or a year from now, you'll find beauty within those things that plague your spirit, burden your mind, and weigh heavy on your heart right now.
Be easy.
