I just came across this site and find out really cool. I'm trying to get from 81 in Virginia to the 40 into New Mexico. Any tips or fellow travels to help?

How have you been traveling previously? If you hitch down 81 you'll eventually be on 40 around the White Pine/Dandrige area. You can take this all the way to New Mexico. I don't know which part of VA your at but I never had luck hitching that entire state.

The fastest way if you don't have wheels is a ticket on the dirty dog.

I used to travel for work to everywhere, but the dog is out of reach after all my med expenses. Taken me 2 days to get from Winchester to Harrisonburg off the 81 lol. Miss the desert do much I'm trying to see it one last time. I'm not used to having to hitch, used to pick some up for the good company all the time though.

That sucks, I'd try looking for a rideshare on craigslist or even posting in the Ride Board here on STP. I'll be passing through Virginia in two weeks but I'm heading toward Pennsylvania then off to Olympia, Washington; so in the wrong direction. Best of luck though.
