No matter how your cell phone is used here are some simple tips on how to keep yourcell phone battery running longer.
1. Turn the vibrate function off. The vibrate function is great if you're at a football game, or in the office, but for around the house or running errands the function isn't necessary and takes more battery power than the ring tone by itself.
2. When the phone is in use, save your battery by setting the phones screen to “auto-brightness” or dim it. The brighter the screen, the more it drains the battery. Pictured right is the iPhone 4s feature for Wallpapers & Brightness. You may find this feature under settings > Wallpapers & Brightness > slide the button to green for “on.” Other types of phones, this feature can be found usually under settings.
3. Turn off your phone. Although this is pretty self explanatory when you are not planning on using or answering your phone for a while turn it off rather than on silent or vibrate.
4. Some phones have a power save function like computer monitors where after a certain amount of time the phone goes idle. Set yours to the shortest time usually a minute or two, so the phone goes to sleep faster after a certain amount of inactivity.
5. If your phone has blue tooth capability, make sure you have it disabled when it is not in use.
6. Limit the use of the camera, video camera, and internet as much as possible when you know it could be some time until your battery gets its next charge.
7. Keep calls short. This does seem pretty obvious but keeping calls short greatly increases your battery life.
8. Lower your ring tone. Apart from saving your hearing, lowering the volume on your ring tone helps your battery last longer.
9. Use non-animated screen savers. Animated screen savers use a great deal more energy than the regular non-animated.
10. The number one cell phone battery killer, signal searching. If you are in an area where you receive little or no signal your phone will constantly search for signal consistently draining your battery. If you have poor reception turn off your phone until you have better signal.
a. This includes GPS functions as well. Some applications now ask for your location to function properly, like Facebook to “check-in” at certain locations or other mapping tool apps. If you are not using these apps, consider turning off your GPS or deny access to location tracking on specific applications if you do not want to turn off GPS completely.
11. Many phones have downloadable applications; try a battery saver application or task killer. Some applications will continue running in the background. Once you have finished using the app, use a task killer to stop it from running.
12. Turn off notifications if you do not use them, or if you rarely check the notification immediately. News applications, e-mail, or other apps turn on your screen and usually have an alert sound to notify you – which drain your battery.
13. Keep the phone and battery away from extreme temperatures whenever possible. Do not leave the phone or battery in your car; as temperatures inside the car can exceed outside temperatures.
14. If you have a protective case around your phone, this can cause heat when charging the battery. If you leave your case on during charging, leave the phone on a cool, dry surface. Occasionally take your phone out of the protective case to let it “breathe.” Heat can shorten a battery’s life.
15. It is okay for to run down the battery completely every now and then. However, it is wise to not make this a habit and continually drain the battery. Repeated draining of the battery until the phone shuts off will ultimately damage it. Shallow discharges will prolong battery life.
