Hi, I've been cruising this site for awhile lurking and reading. I like it and think it's kind of amazing setting up a community for free spirited people and travelers.
I'm california born and raised and have done a little military service. The military didn't really work out well, I did 5 years but went awol twice during those 5 years and somehow still got an honorable discharge. I guess I was a good person is what they told me and didn't deserve to have my life ruined.
I'm currently driving a semi truck and have been doing it for the past year. I don't see it panning out much longer (probably a week or two) because of the isolation and stress. I keep driving past these amazing places and only stop in big cities or truck stops. There's really no free time. 70 hours a week nonstop worm for measly pay, I guess the risk isn't worth the reward anymore and summer is on its way. The ice and snow is thawing out and I'm getting the desire and feeling I need to move on.
I'm a down to earth guy who usually has a smile on his face and glad to help people out. I've had a little experience hopping freight but not much. Basically I have some gear and am getting some more once I get off this truck. Then gonna file my taxes and take off wherever I can. I'm down to meet people and share journeys or story's along the way.
I'm not sure where to meet people in this kind of life or if I'm too old for it. I'm 30 but I don't feel it. No kids no ties nothing really holding me back.
If anyone wants to meet up or kick it and talk maybe give me some advice or share a few brews I'm down. I'll be in springfield in the next week or two and planning on getting out of there as soon as I can.
Got my phone for now but am gonna have to switch it out for a burner phone or Obama phone.
If anyone wants to shoot me a text I can send you my number. I have a lead on a bus driving job up in Ketchikan but it sounds kind of a 50/50 chance. Either way I know my plans and journeys are going to change once I get going.
I'm not too worried about being stuck in this kind of life. Once I need to get out of it the VA can set me up with housing and a job. Might not be the best but it's resources available to me and I'm very glad they are there as I don't have anything else to fall back on but my impressive resume.
Anyways, just saying hi to you all! Hope to meet some of you this year. You all sound like some great people.
