Hi all! I'm a homeless traveler whose new to squatting. I'm looking for a couch or a squat somewhere in Denver. Or just some friends or people to help me out. I'm thinking of riding the train down south just because it's getting cold, but I'm pretty attached to Denver if i'm being honest. I spent a year here before and formed a lot of connections.

More about my actual personality: I'm a 25 year old artist. Art is not my job but it's my passion. I try and work whatever job I can get. Right now i'm trying to get a job in Denver just because that's where I was before. I'm currently in Europe at the moment and totally blew all my money staying here.

I love to draw, paint, read, and write. I'm pretty into philosophy mainly existentialism and occult stuff. I'm also a feminist.

Oh and I'm a black woman if my gender and race are important at all.

Anyway I'm happy to be part of this community and am excited to see what comes out of this! Sorry if I seem too much like a tourist here, but I know when I go home I will most likely be a vagabond, so I'm just trying to get some help. I'm potentially going to the springs, but I really would like to stay in Denver for the community I have there.

Well, welcome, for all that's worth; the black part will make a difference in Denver, unfortunately. You may not get much help on the Squat front because of that. Or at least that's what I always found. I miss my old Hostel that I used as a "watering hole" whenever I was going cross-continent back in the day, the Denver International Hostel in downtown-East Denver. They were LESS racist there.

Don't go to "the Springs" "while Black." If you don't remember the TV show "Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman," watch it sometime. That town still has that same mentality these days and yes I realise that's FICTION. Still. That's the "vibe" I got every time I passed through it and glad I never tried to stop off and try to LIVE there. Or, Heavens, get a JOB there. For Colorado everything outside Denver/Boulder is hella racist. Everything else. It might as well be the Deep South. ESPECIALLY Colorado Springs. OK maybe they won't actually burn crosses on your lawn anymore these days but you sure as hell won't get a JOB there. Even if you're 100 times more qualified than all the other White applicants. I tried that once, it was a closed-captioning for the hearing impaired, centre, I was the only person who passed the test, they admitted that part to me, but they still sent me on my way, "thanks for stopping by." Yes, in the 21st century, Colorado Springs. Like I said, might as well be the Deep South.

thanks for sharing this informative personal story (it helps me better understand the landscape of the usa) and equally might i recognise this is super discouraging cultural norm. im in remote australia and this country here is definitely built on settler colonialism, genocide and racism as predominant themes/forces and some other themes to a lesser degree.
