Fairly new to the site been lurking for a little bit. I have been in IT for the past 5 years working, buying, working sleeping, working sleeping. I'm fed up and longing for more, long time punk, i met some crust downtown who were about to catch out on a train out of Florida. If they had not been arrested we would be long gone by now. I have already pretty much dropped everything career included and am ready to skip town and travel. I grew up in the woods, and long for self liberation and detachment from the life i have been living. To really take things one day at a time, to drop out and find myself I don't want to be old wondering did i miss my chance? did i really live my life? Any tips are appreciated, new friends always welcome, if you are in the St. Petersburg Fl area anytime soon i would be glad to show you around or drink a beer, thanks.

Welcome. Glad to hear you're taking yourself out of the high score game! It's not easier on the poor side but it's definitely more fun. Hope you find your way :)

Hey man welcome to the site. Just keep in mind there isn't one type of freedom, and some things still cost money. Begging for change is no different than working either, if anything begging is closer to slavery than anything.
Being free doesn't mean you have to give up everything, especially when some of those things may contribute to your freedom. It seems like you have a lot of skills which you could use on the road or anywhere you may be. Maybe you can do the odd freelance type work along your travels.
That being said going out into the world is the single best thing you could do with your life.

Glad to hear your ready to make that leap.

hey man, congrats on making such a huge leap! im sure it wasnt easy leaving your job that you worked so hard to get!

ive worked a few short stints in the IT field (having no formal education) and after a while, it didnt do anything for me except a paycheck. granted i was a bench tech. actually grew up thinking i was gonna live the american dream as a computer scientist of some sort. my point in telling you that is that i know that whether money or passion was the factor for getting into the field, i respect you for knowing when let it go. most people would continue to let their soul rot so they can have a semi-"comfortable" life.

oh, and dont think you cant be liberated from money as well. there are a few living examples around the world that prove its possible. you just have to have to want to live it. if it peaks your interest, google daniel suelos faq site. he gives a lot of why he lives the way he does and how he makes it work for him without cash.

theres also wwoofing and living in an intentional community such as an ecovillage.

just some ideas for a new traveler .. take em or leave em, wont hurt my feelings either way.

and welcome! :)
