been reading some of your recent blog posts. cool stuff! could you explain the difference between loading your boat for paddling and for sailing? and does it make any difference if you are going up or down stream? thanks.

Sure. Loading for paddling entitles shifting more weight to the back, as my canoe is most maneauverable if you paddle from the front. When sailing you guide from the back with the paddle, and wieght the front of the boat, since it's rigged with a lug sail fastened into a hole in the front seat. In strong winds the prow goes up while the stern goes down, so it's best to weight the front to give yourself more leeway/space between your ass and the water whilst sailing.

And there is a BIG differance between upriver and downriver! You fight the current and hug the bank when going up, and slide down in the middle of the channel while going downriver. The wind usually blows upriver through. I've hardly ever sailed downriver.
