Personally, I have done it, and I have a tip for a "less mess" situation when you do it :
Tampon or moon cup freshly inserted, then 1/4 of a wet nap rolled up and gently placed (not jammed up) her vagina to catch the excess blood and clots that might sneak past a tampon.
