Hi All,
Hope I'm posting in the right place!

I'm travelling to Bozeman, MT for work -- took a job with Xanterra at Yellowstone National Park. Extremely limited funds, so I'm planning to hitchhike.

Problem is, I don't know how long it will take. I'm scheduled to begin work on August 12, was thinking if I start thumbing on August 5th I could make it in time.

Is one week long enough to cover that distance, or should I leave sooner?

Thanks,
Jason

theoretically you should be fine, but who knows, you might hit a spell of bad luck and not get picked up at all. i don't mean to discourage you, but hitchhiking (and train hopping as well) are never a good idea to do when you're on a schedule, simply because you have no idea what might happen. if i was in your position, i would just take a bus.

on a side note, there's another person on here that's working for DNC on the east side of the park, but i can't remember what their username was...

Unfortunately funds won't allow for bus travel.

It's quite a jaunt to get to I-15 for long distance, lots of highway (mostly 89) inbetween. Maybe I should plan for a 10-day trip?

come on, you seriously can't afford 125 bucks? yeah, i checked greyhound for you. doesn't sound like you're that serious about the job.

but yeah, if you insist on hitching, better to get there early than late.

Um, no. I have exactly 27.35 in my pocket. I was in mainland China for 6 years, visited Cambodia, and then got sick. The Embassy repatriated me to the States for medicine. Now I have to start over.

Not sure what you think you read that would give you an impression that I'm not serious about my job, but in all honesty, you're coming off like a stalker/asshole.

hmmm - Owner Matt is not on but I have to respond. He is a seasoned traveler who sheds his info down to other welcome traverlers. The unwelcome comments, heh - I'll let Matt discuss if he wants.

Sorry for your problems in Asia - and starting over, ugh - I've done that way too many times but not with health issues involved. But it does sound like - head out sooner so you get there. I will try and look up the other person who is heading out there to work at Yellowstone as well. Sounds like fun too. k? Stay safe and get there.

Yeah, I guess my comments were rude to say the least -- It's been a rough day and I read his post in a negative light.

Thanks for the help, it'd be nice to talk to someone else who's going that way. If not, no worries. Thanks again and take care...
